Thursday open thread

Hey ya’ll – I’m buried under today, and won’t be able to blog again til much later this evening. See ya’ll then.

PM Update 11:20 PM: Just got home from a long day, and a Christmas party this evening. Not only am I exhausted, but I’m also feeling under the weather, too. It was only a matter of time as a few people I know have been sick as well. I’m fighting it, believe me :) Ya’ll keep holding down the fort, and I’ll be back sometime tomorrow (I hope!).

For something different, A campaign most of us can get behind: The Campaign for Real Gravy

I’ve had it with reconstituted food at restaurants.

Has anyone seen this?? It is sad that Hill got her own Mom to lie for her.

Sorry for the Hill link, but you have to watch this and laugh. – Lorica

    Pelosi: Republicans `like’ Iraq War

    Are you “F’ng” Kidding me??

These people need to go away, now. I for one hate this war. But I certainly don’t want to run and hide in the face of such a horrible enemy. I would like to see our soldiers come home victorious as in WW2 and not to cries of insults and people spitting – Lorica

My message to Pelosi – I don’t like war, but I absolutely, positively loathe losing; and since the battle’s been joined, I’m in to win.

Well, the title company I work for in CA is shutting down today, so here I am, with a drink in hand on the final day..

I’m going to take the open thread and pitch electric power in transportation today. I know I’ve done it before with the Tesla.

I thinks it’s a great substitute for gas burning vehicles. Not because I’m worried about global warming, but I’d like to see how quickly the price of oil comes down once these alternatives become a reality.

Everything is invented out of necessity and at over $3.00 for a gallon of gas I think we’ll see more and more of these inventions.

David Hazinski: Unfettered ‘citizen journalism’ too risky

Hazinski is a former NBC correspondent and is currently an associate professor of telecommunications and head of broadcast news at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism. Which explains a lot.

It does not occur to Hazinski that one reason for the rise of the “citizen journalists” he so loathes is the fact that too many of his colleagues are so lousy at journalism. The main benefit of “citizen journalists” has been to expose the shoddy reporting – not to mention outright lying, fraud and deceit – of “professional journalists”. It is hard not to snicker when he natters on and on about ethics – a foreign concept at NBC and the rest of the MSM. Has even a single MSM journalist faced up to the inaccurate, dishonest reporting about Iraq, for example?

But I suppose it is asking too much for Professor Hazinski to honestly confront the problems in his profession. His piece ended with a vague call for some kind of unspecified regulation of journalists – censorship, in other words.

Which is par for the course in the MSM. It is easier, after all, to silence critics than answer them.

Well ST, hope you feel better, and hope you’re not getting the same bug I picked up. It’s a bad one, I’ve had it for a week and it’s still not showing signs of getting the hint and moving on. :( Stock up on hot tea, and get to a doc and get some real cough syrup, you’re going to need it. Double :(

Bummer to hear about the job Ryan. And right before Christmas. A company I used to work for was really fond of laying people off right before Christmas but finally stopped and would not lay off people between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the suicides. Not that they cared about the suicides, just about the bad press the local newspaper was hammering them with about it. Meh.

  9. Severian says:

On another note, I watched part of the last Republican debate, and the only candidate who impressed me was Alan Keyes. Damn, I’d not paid any attention to him before. :-?

  10. Tom TB says:

Lorica, that Hillary ad is hillarious! “Never been envious of other people…” Hah! Notice that they don’t show Mr.Rodham’s face, no mention or picture of William Jefferson Blythe Clinton; if someone didn’t know any better they would think Hillary and Chelsea were developed with minimal Male help.

  11. Lorica says:

It does not occur to Hazinski that one reason for the rise of the “citizen journalists” he so loathes is the fact that too many of his colleagues are so lousy at journalism.

I have to ask. Did this man feel this way about Benjamin Franklin?? When Franklin was printing papers as a citizen journalist this man would have been right there to shut him down. Nice. – Lorica

  12. Tango says:

Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. Flyser! advises a nice cup of catnip tea… ;))

Ok Now For Some Fun. This was a pretty nice quiz. A little quiz to test your Christmas Carol knowledge. I hope you enjoy it. I stunk by the way. Only got 72 percent. – Lorica

Sorry to hear about this Ryan. I pray that you will be on a better career path soon.

Dear, I agree with Sev’s assessment, hot green or white tea with honey, and something light like chicken broth. Always helps me. I will even stop on over and make some up for you if you would like. =)) Actually I have been fighting a sinus/lung infection for the last week. I took 2 days off this week to stay at home to recoup.

Tom, I could not honestly believe that the phrase “she has never been envious” could be said about Hillary Clinton. OMG this woman has always been envious of others. Control freaks like Hill are always envious, that is why they have to be in control. Her main mission in life was to be President and that kind of need just scares the bejesus out of me. It is a horrible horrible thing to make your Mom lie for you like this, and I don’t see it working for her in any way shape or form. It is purely a desperation move. Also, I didn’t even know her Mom was still alive. In 8 years of her being in the White House, did we ever see Hill’s Mom there?? – Lorica

  15. PCD says:

Lorica, Hillary likened to your ex-wife is very accurate. When that appellation takes hold, Hillary is done for ever.

  16. Steve Skubinna says:

ST, for pity’s sake don’t listen to these guys! Tea or chicken broth, forsooth! They do not have your best interests at heart. Obviously, one need not even ask about my bona fides.

Squeeze about a quarter of a lemon into a mug, add about a tablespoon of honey, a generous shot of bourbon, and then fill with boiling water. Sip. Repeat as needed.

This works best if taken while ensconced in an overstuffed chair or sofa, so when one inevitably dozes off one awakes refreshed and ache-free. For an additional boost, take a hot steamy shower right before administering this elizer. A comfy robe or wrap is also efficacious.

  17. Thank you all for the advice :) I’m still under the weather, but I’m hanging in there. Sucks to feel like this right in the middle of the holiday season! Still have so much to do and so little time to do it in.

  18. Ryan says:

Thanks Lorica. Luckily I just was the payroll supervisor, so I can find something similar elsewhere. I feel really bad for the people in title and escrow who are stuck.

  19. Ryan, sorry to hear about your job woes – good luck on finding another one.

  20. Great White Rat says:

Also sorry to hear this, Ryan…keep your chin up, and we’ll all be praying you find a new position soon.

  21. Steve Skubinna says:

Ryan, I’m not going to blow smoke about “blessings in disguise,” but sometimes when this happens it’s an opportunity for a candid self assessment. You can evaluate exactly what it is about the old job you liked, what you didn’t like, and what you’d like to be doing five or ten years down the road.

This may even be an chance to go in an entirely new direction – if that’s what appeals to you. Of course, being a payroll supervisor is something that cuts across all industries and specialties.

  22. NC Cop says:

Keep your chin up, Ryan. There’s something even better out there waiting for you.
