Ryan, I’m not going to blow smoke about “blessings in disguise,” but sometimes when this happens it’s an opportunity for a candid self assessment. You can evaluate exactly what it is about the old job you liked, what you didn’t like, and what you’d like to be doing five or ten years down the road.

This may even be an chance to go in an entirely new direction – if that’s what appeals to you. Of course, being a payroll supervisor is something that cuts across all industries and specialties.

Thanks Lorica. Luckily I just was the payroll supervisor, so I can find something similar elsewhere. I feel really bad for the people in title and escrow who are stuck.

Thank you all for the advice I’m still under the weather, but I’m hanging in there. Sucks to feel like this right in the middle of the holiday season! Still have so much to do and so little time to do it in.

ST, for pity’s sake don’t listen to these guys! Tea or chicken broth, forsooth! They do not have your best interests at heart. Obviously, one need not even ask about my bona fides.

Squeeze about a quarter of a lemon into a mug, add about a tablespoon of honey, a generous shot of bourbon, and then fill with boiling water. Sip. Repeat as needed.

This works best if taken while ensconced in an overstuffed chair or sofa, so when one inevitably dozes off one awakes refreshed and ache-free. For an additional boost, take a hot steamy shower right before administering this elizer. A comfy robe or wrap is also efficacious.

Dear, I agree with Sev’s assessment, hot green or white tea with honey, and something light like chicken broth. Always helps me. I will even stop on over and make some up for you if you would like. Actually I have been fighting a sinus/lung infection for the last week. I took 2 days off this week to stay at home to recoup.

Tom, I could not honestly believe that the phrase “she has never been envious” could be said about Hillary Clinton. OMG this woman has always been envious of others. Control freaks like Hill are always envious, that is why they have to be in control. Her main mission in life was to be President and that kind of need just scares the bejesus out of me. It is a horrible horrible thing to make your Mom lie for you like this, and I don’t see it working for her in any way shape or form. It is purely a desperation move. Also, I didn’t even know her Mom was still alive. In 8 years of her being in the White House, did we ever see Hill’s Mom there?? – Lorica

It does not occur to Hazinski that one reason for the rise of the “citizen journalists” he so loathes is the fact that too many of his colleagues are so lousy at journalism.

I have to ask. Did this man feel this way about Benjamin Franklin?? When Franklin was printing papers as a citizen journalist this man would have been right there to shut him down. Nice. – Lorica

Well ST, hope you feel better, and hope you’re not getting the same bug I picked up. It’s a bad one, I’ve had it for a week and it’s still not showing signs of getting the hint and moving on. Stock up on hot tea, and get to a doc and get some real cough syrup, you’re going to need it. Double

Bummer to hear about the job Ryan. And right before Christmas. A company I used to work for was really fond of laying people off right before Christmas but finally stopped and would not lay off people between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the suicides. Not that they cared about the suicides, just about the bad press the local newspaper was hammering them with about it. Meh.
