If you love the blues, get a hold of the old movie “Crossroads.” On the down side, you have to put up with Ralph Machio playing the kid who wants to learn the blues, but you also get a wonderful performance by Joe Seneca playing the old blues man who basically busts Ralph’s chops non stop, with the added benefit of blues by Ry Cooder and a story based around the legend of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil. Great film.

Old bluesman: Go back home and let yo’ mama wipe your ass

Kid: I don’t live at home.

Old bluesman: Where you live?

Kid: It’s like a school dormitory.

Old bluesman: Oh, a school dormitory? Times is hard…times is haaarrrd.

When I’m back in Japan, I got the itunes jamming in the shop alllllllll day long……….long and strong on the blues! Teachin’ the local boys and girls what music SHOULD sound like. (J-Pop pretty much sucks, IMO)

Loved the clip, thanks ST. All those guys are great, but I gotta tell ya, when Clapton finally got his chance to solo towards the end, his tasteful phrasing and the ultra smooth delivery of his chops were the icing on the cake for me. Awesome.

Love blues, and it really irritated me that when John Lee Hooker died at the same time Carrol O’Conner did, all the news could do was go on and on and on about O’Connor and practically ignored Hooker.

What did it say on the bluesman’s tombstone? “Didn’t wake up this morning.”

The best blues player I've heard who's currently with us (God bless you, SRV) is a guy who goes by the name of Brother Yusef. He's most often found in the Downtown Disney district next to Disneyland in Anaheim. Plays the most jaw-dropping acoustic blues you could ever dream of hearing. I lived in an apartment that was owned by a local blue musician. Those guys would play at night and it would come up thru the air vents. I always enjoyed it, but blues has never been a passion of mine, unless you consider some of Van Morrison’s stuff. I do love Jeff Beck. He has always been a favorite of mine. – Lorica

It seems I spoke to soon. A new contender has emerged: Dumber and Dumber

A guy named Virgilio Cintron, who lived here in midtown Manhattan, died in the last 24 hours. His roommate, James O'Hare, and another pal named David Dalaia, decided since Cintron wouldn't be using his last Social Security check they'd cash it and use it for him. They figured they had a way for Cintron to cash his own check, even though he was dead. So they put Cintron — still dead — in a desk chair with wheels and rolled him down to the check cashing store. Witnesses recalled seeing Cintron's head and limbs moving around in a way clearly recognizable as a dead guy.
