I have to hand it to Obama - he holds the moral high ground by conspicuously refusing to address possible racial slurs against him, which of course reminds everyone of them again. Much more subtle and classy than Huckabee's asinine "here's that negative ad I told you I'm not going to run!" stunt.

Now, I don't think the "spadework" and "shuck and jive" incidents are racist, but they display a remarkable tin ear. Anyone, for example, who uses the term "niggardly" in an appropriate context needs to be aware of the potential for this proper and useful term to be willfully or innocently misconstrued and guard against it.

And it is amusing to watch the Dems turn the PC artillery against each other for a change. Bring on the fratricidal engagement, sez me! For all the premature conclusions reached on the left that we are witnessing the End Of The Republican Party As We Know It, this is a far more dangerous time for the Dems. For the first time they have an opportunity, in fact an obligation to move past their filthy brand of identity politics, victim group pandering, and promoting racial and social tensions. As the Clintons (and for that matter, the entrenched race baiters of the Jackson and Sharpton stripe) are not yet discovering, there are forming powerful undercurrents within their party that want to abandon the grievance mongering of the past. I really believe that this has the potential to split the Democratic Party as the Old Guard refuses to acknowledge that they're not held to be indispensable anymore. Some, perhaps many of Obama's supporters clearly do respond to promises of hope, however vague and ill defined they are. Plus, many of them are of the "anyone but Hillary" camp. Not every Democrat is going to want to bury the hatchet and pull together behind Hillary if they feel she gains the nomination by unfair means.

And being a Clinton, it's a lead pipe cinch that's how she'll gain it. Whatever it takes, win at any cost is the Clinton mantra, and that of the Carvilles and Begalas and Blumenthals and McAuliffes they surround themsleves with. The old Peter Arnett slander he invented about the military, "We had to destroy the village in order to save it" could well be applied to this abominable dynasty in the making. It takes a Clinton to destroy a village...

I am reasonably proud to be on the libertarian/Republican end of the spectrum; since we believe character counts over sex or race, we don't have to sweat about "who goes first," the girl or the person of color.

Exhibit A: Reagan's Supreme Court
Exhibit B: GWB's cabinet officers

What do the Progressives have to show us? -- catfighting!

Which is the stronger card, the Race Card or the Gender Card.

Both cards seem to be well in play this election cycle.
