PCD, From what I have heard, Culver raised taxes on tobacco, saying he would be able to raise an extra 15 million dollars, which they immediately spent. Now word is that they didn’t get their extra money, but they are down 6 million from what they would have gotten if they would have never instituted that tax. The point of the matter is this belief Dems have, that the American people are a never ending fount of money. They waste more money on stupid projects that have little to know meaning then when they have budget shortfalls they institute a new tax to pay for things.

This same waste is the same problem I have with Madam Pelosi. You think these guys are paying restaurant prices for Mahi Mahi?? I like the common man attitude these people have. Jell-o is good enough for thee, but we want raspberry tarts. You can have tuna, but we will have Mahi Mahi!!! She is so dual minded it should be criminal, and stupidly, she doesn’t realize that people are very aware that she is talking out of both sides of her mouth. Also, you can eat healthy and still maintain control on your budget. – Lorica

4, Lorica, It is because Culver can’t get a tax on recycleable bottles, and he can’t raise anymore funds for REAP.

The most disturbing thing about this is Culver is confiscating “a pile of money”, the unclaimed deposits for his wasteral ways. I really wonder if this is an UNCONSTITUTIONAL confiscation of assets?

That works unless you’re a low wage staffer living in a hyper expensive town like the DC area. More expensive food, priced so that the little people can’t afford it, yeah, that sounds just like the limousine liberal approach, we’re really so concerned about the little people we’re going to make their life harder.

PCD you know that the only reason Culver is doing that is so cities in Iowa can waste more of your money. My favorite example of uselessness is this bridge in Davenport Iowa. It ends right at the edge of the Mississippi river. It is nicknamed the bridge to no where. - Lorica LINK

Maybe Pelosi will do as IA Governor, Chet Culver, is trying to do. Culver is trying to double the bottle deposit from a nickle to a dime, but of that increase, 1 cent goes to the state and 1 to the retailer. In the past the distributor collected the nickle from the retailer, refunding a penny for handling, and keeping the balance of the deposits. Now, Culver wants the state to confiscate the balance of the deposits, too, for the general fund.

More or less, Culver is taxing anything sold in a recycleable bottle and confiscating unclaimed deposits. That is a 9 cent tax on bottles, and the media in Iowa is deathly quiet on it.

Next thing you know, she’ll be revamping bathroom wiping policies, too.

Funny that, if they wanted to ‘green up’ they would stop adding hundreds of useless add-on and garbage to bills.

They would out thru good bills, because once rejectedi assume they need to be rewritten or they are tossed.

But, they will save the earth, one baguette at a time…..
