I was thinking again about the "plagiarism" charge the Clinton campaign raised after Obama recycled a portion of a Deval Patrick speech. The charge is silly, of course, but when you look at the text of his remarks closely, it does confirm another charge many have made: that he's all rhetoric and no content. The fact is, he's throwing around a lot of quotes here - but he doesn't subscribe to a single one of them. That part of his speech really was empty bloviating.

For example:

"I have a dream." Just words?

If you recall, among Dr. King's dreams was one that his children would one day live in a nation where they would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

So does Obama subscribe to King's dream? He's on the way to becoming the nominee of the party of racial quotas and set-asides. The party that runs racially inflammatory ads warning that if Republicans are elected, black churches will burn. The party that preaches that mutliculturalism is much more important than traditional American values - or character. The party that hurled Oreo cookies at Michael Steele during his Senate campaign.

Just words? To Obama, yes, that's all they are. And let's be clear: Clinton's no better.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." Just words?

Again, Obama and Patrick sidestep the context to get a good sound bite. What immediately follows is this:

that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Creator? CREATOR? Mention that word around Democrats and you're accused of trying to install a theocracy. Life? Well, for murderers and terrorists, yes. For the unborn - only if it's convenient. Pursuit of happiness? No...the modern democratic party believes the role of government is to guarantee happiness, and if you achieve it on your own you're one of the "winners in life's lottery", and it's their job to punish you. As for equality...see Dr. King's remarks above.

Just words? Yep, no question. Empty words.

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Just words? Just speeches?

So says the candidate of the leftists who become shrill and irrational about the Patriot Act? The candidate of the party that makes scaring the elderly about Social Security a standard election year ploy? The party that wets its pants at the idea of drilling for oil in ANWR. And of course, the party that accepts as an article of faith that the Global Warming boogeyman will get us all unless we elect them and cut back our standard of living (that most recently from Bill Clinton).

Just words? Absolutely. Just speeches? Nah...just sound bites.

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." Just words?

This may be the most bizarre of the bunch. No one does more for the country than the Armed Forces. And no one treats them with contempt like Obama's base on the far left. Try to defund their work when they're succeeding. Insult and malign them in Capitol Hill hearings. Disenfranchise them whenever possible. As for the other side of the coin, when is the last time you heard a leftist talk about something other than what they can get from the country? The left, which means mainly the Dems, are the Church of the Perpetual Entitlement. JFK wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the podium at a Dem gathering if the organizers knew he'd say words like that. On the other hand, I'd vote for JFK today in a heartbeat over the current set of choices we have.

Once again...just words? Since Obama doesn't mean any of them, that is precisely what they are.
