For months, we have been saying that Barack Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, was going to hurt Obama's campaign. Now that ABC's Brian Ross has released videotapes of Wright's sermons, Wright is front and center in the Democratic Primary election campaign. Is this stage one of the so-called Kitchen Sink that might derail Obama's path to the nomination?

I hope that every American gets the opportunity to see and hear Jeremiah Wright for themselves- the "God Damn America" rants, the justifications for 9-11, the references to Hillary Clinton as "white" this and "white that", as well as references to "Uncle Toms". According to Wright, American is an evil country, and he doesn't seem to have much use for white folks either. This man is a vile racist who hates his country. This is a man who claims that we invented the AIDS virus to infect non-whites. Christian minister? This sounds more like some radical Muslim cleric preaching Jihad in some London mosque.

Remember also that this is the same man who traveled with Louis Farrakhan to Libya in 1984 to meet with Moamar Khadafi. This is the same man who recently gave an award to Farrakhan. This is the church that emphasizes the so-called "black value system" and other "black principles" that can only tell other ethnic groups that they are not welcome.

Now that the tapes are out there for all to see and hear, Obama has reacted (as he had to) and released a statement today that he repudiates the offensive statements made by Wright. He claims not to have been present in church when these vile things were said.

It is not enough, and it is not convincing.

First of all, Barack Obama has been affilated with this church and this pastor (Wright recently retired) for almost 20 years. He has identified Wright as his mentor and inspiration. The title of his first book, The Audacity of Hope, came from one of Wright's sermons. Wright married Barack and Michelle Obama and baptized their children.

Obama's statements about Wright are not only insufficient, but lame. He says that the worst sermons were made when he was not present. C'mon! In his nearly 20 years attending the Trinity Church, he has not heard these rants, as he is claiming? That strains credulity. He implies that only in the past year has he learned of Wright's controversial pronouncements. He has stated that he only stayed in the church because Wright was retiring. No, Mr Obama, he was your mentor and inspiration-in your own words. You also put him on an advisory committee for your campaign. You and your wife have been listening to Wright's sermons for nearly two decades. Your explanations do not wash.

When one views the sermons, one not only hears the vicious words, but one sees and hears the wild applause and affirmations of the congregation. What were Barack and Michelle Obama doing during these sermons? Were they sitting there like potted plants?

Recently, Obama explained his relationship to Wright by referring to all the families who have a crazy uncle that they don't agree with. We can't choose our uncles, but we can choose our churches, Mr and Mrs Obama.

That leads me to Mrs Obama. In light of her recent speeches and questionable references to her country, I also want to hear the woman who would be our First Lady speak out about Dr Wright and answer the same questions as her husband.

But it is not enough to state that they don't agree with those statements. Will they remain in this church-and why have they been a part of it for almost 20 years?

In the interest of full disclosure, I had been hoping that Obama would get the nomination out of my intense revulsion toward Hillary Clinton. I even voted for him in the California Primary since, as an independent, I was precluded from voting for a Republican. Of course, I never entertained the thought that I might vote for him in November. I have written that Hillary would have to steal the nomination from Obama since he has the delegate lead and will hold it when the convention begins in Denver.

Yet, at this point, the Democrats may have to bite the bullet and choose between handing the nomination to Hillary-which she could not win from the voters-or allowing Obama, with this odious association, to become their standard-bearer.

So on goes the increasingly ugly Democratic Primary. Just this week, Hillary offered an apology to black voters for remarks made by Geraldine Ferraro about Obama. Who, if anyone, will Obama apologize to for Wright's dispicable rants?

Now that Obama has denied previous knowledge of Wright's words, if that proves not to be true, then he is finished. More importantly, is there a hidden side to Barack and Michelle Obama, two people who represent themselves as bridging the racial divide? I don't know, but I don't think this man has any business being a US senator, let alone President of the United States.

Jay in MD states:

I belive that, in part, Obama attends this "church" because that's his base. Obama was a "community organizer", that is to say a communist block captain. He was the guy who printed the signs, organized the supposedly "spontaneous" marches, etc. Remember the photos of Obama supporters and the Che flag? It's all part of Obama's support base. The "evil corporations", the all powerful "MAN", etc.

Obama rode these people's support to the IL statehouse representing Chicago's south side. It's all part of the socialist agenda to which Obama is a devotee. So Obama continues to atttend this church. He probably believes most of what the clown spews from the pulpit, but even if Obama didn't he would still go there because that's his image/rep.

Actually Obama has attended that church for over 20 years from what I heard. This same pastor married him and his wife, Obama consults with this pastor, and even prayed with this pastor privately before his run for President.

I think he is more endeared to this church and pastor than what others make him out to be. You don't go to a church every week for 20 years to disavow yourself of what you been taught all that time.

Tom TB states:

The Rev. Wright clearly hates America, so therefore, if the Obama's have signed on to his belief system, they too hate America.

It is interesting that you say this Tom. I was listening to Laura Ingraham talk about this morning and I so wanted to call in and say CONNECT THE DOTS.

Do you remember Obama not wanting to wear a flag lapel pin?

Do you remember he would not put his hand over his heart like every one else (including Hillary) was doing during the Pledge of Allegiance?

Could this be the reason why? A Pastor and Church he has gone to over 20 years who preached anti-americanism and hate of America?

Michelle Obama (wife) stating she only is now proud of America now that her husband is runnig for President?

I wonder why? Could it be what they are preached to for 20 years?

Richard Arnone states:

Obama's crazy uncle excuse is really lame. We can't choose family members but if I had a pastor who was preaching hate I would find a new church very quickly. Why didn't Obama do that unless he buys into the victimhood and racism of the not so reverend Wright.

Pastors are not some 'crazy uncle' in the black community. They are leaders in the black community and they hold great sway and respect over their congregrations and those in thier community.

One thing about a 'Blank slate' like Obama, since he didn't have much to go on with a record of achievements or bills, it leaves alot to be explored to find more about Obama.

Right now Obama is still a bit of a mystery as to what he is about / what values he holds , ect. People will begin to explore his religous background to see what he is about also - and this does nothing to help him.

I didn't hear anything of Louis Farrakhan levels in here. This man is certainly going to hurt Obama down the road, but I was less offended by the talk of 'rich white men', because he seems to saying that Obama can better identify with the black populace than hillary can. That makes an intrinsic amount of sense, doesn't it?

I wouldn't say I agree with what he says, and definitely not how he says it, but nothing here really shocks me.

In general, I'm more offended by hearing Buchanan talk about race, or Pat Robertson on morality, or Haggard on sexuality.

Heather just zip it. Stop deflecting to someone else.

This guy has two friends wanted by Interpol (one for millions in Iraq contract fraud, O's friend, anti-war indeed), he let his people freeze when he had a toasty condo looking for a 1.6 mil house. Do me a favor, find all the middle easterners (including the former Baathist w Hussein above), that are connected to O. His wife has even more dirt on her. The Oil for Food connections (look it up). The people he associates will kill you, McCain will make you fall asleep at the most.

You need to wake up, seriously.

Actually if you look at the leadership for most of the main stream denominations, they are all compromising with the sin they are suppose to be against. Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, even in the Baptist Church, leadership has been caught saying and doing things that per Scripture they should not be doing. So if Hagee is speaking out against the Catholic Church it is because they have compromised with the sin they are suppose to hate. - Lorica

Obama's crazy uncle excuse is really lame. We can't choose family members but if I had a pastor who was preaching hate I would find a new church very quickly. Why didn't Obama do that unless he buys into the victimhood and racism of the not so reverend Wright.
When I vote, I want to vote for someone who will be president of all the people of this country regardless of race and gender. I would not hire a black man who had a chip on his shoulder (too disruptive) nor would I vote for one.

The Rev. Wright clearly hates America, so therefore, if the Obama's have signed on to his belief system, they too hate America.

Obama's Pastor: God Damn America

Hat tip, Hot Air. Sorry about the language folks, but the above is a direct quote. What kind of pastor uses the term God damn in a sermon anyway?"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike

Remember all the photos of Clinton and his ten pound bible every time he got caugt in another chapter of zipper gate? A sinner asking forgiveness and enough people bought it. So BO attends a church fightin' against "the man" to keep his rep intake.

And yeah, considering his wife's racist, anti american remarks, this supposed minister's rants, leaves one to think "birds of a feather flock together".

Heather doesn't seem to understand the difference between having a supporter that is problematic and having your own pastor be problematic. Unless McCain goes to this guy's church, there's nothing that shows he supports this guy's viewpoint. But Obama does go to that church and presumably tithes there as well.

And that brings up my thought for the day: Jewish voters. These are one of those "can't vote for anything but a Dem" groups. Are they going to be supportive of someone is willing to let Israel doomed so he can make points with the Palestinians? If I were one of those voters, I'd want to seriously research Obama's position.
