I think Spitzer’s dumbest move was calling the bank after sending a group of the wire transfers and telling them to take his name off.

I’d say that probably set off all the bells and whistles.

Even the conspiracists can't agree on their "it's Bush's fault" theories. I caught the article, Why Spitzer was Bushwhacked", in the Asian Times yesterday where F. William Engdahl was proclaiming it was a Bush admin driven agenda in order to prevent Spitzer from exposing that the WH orchestrated the mortgage industry hubbub. This, of course, on the heels of Engdahl's other Bush conspiracy about the Pandemic Influenza Strategic Plan, and of course his bio-ethanol "Ethanol Pact" conspiracy. None of these theories got traction in the media either. Goes to show there's no dearth of "experts" out there, determined to blame the latest mosquito bite on the current admin.

Why, ST, you are so enterprising. I was about to e-mail you that very Times story, but I see you found it w/o my help.

What is so amazing about the story is that while it seems to me to have been clearly designed to show that the administration pursued Spitzer in a way that it would not have had he been anyone else, the very quotes they use seem (to use one of their favorite weasel words) demonstrate exactly the opposite.

Government officials, including several who have been briefed on details of the case but declined to speak on the record because they were not authorized to discuss a continuing inquiry, said there was no alternative but to look into Mr. Spitzer’s activities once investigators began examining reports of suspicious transactions that banks filed with the Treasury Department. Those reports suggested to investigators that Mr. Spitzer might have been trying to keep anyone from noticing transfers of his own funds. That is the kind of activity that can bring an investigation of the possibility of corruption.

I seem to recall an incident in which the governors office used the state police to try and get the dirt on his Republican adversaries. Yet somehow, that’s acceptable?

OK, that’s it, I’m officially changing my party designation to Democrat. I’m tired of having to act like an adult, obey the law, be responsible and mature. I want to be able to blame everything on someone else, get away with everything, and whine about being a victim if I get caught, no matter what it is I’m doing.

Whew! What a relief it is to not have to act like an adult! I feel better already!
