Thanks for the post on "Pop" in Greensboro. I have a couple of friends from back in high school who are on the G-boro PD. Haven't talked to them about this, but sent an email to the GPD anyway. I was polite, but let them know that this was one of the stupidest things I've heard about them doing in a long time.

I'm surprised the cop didn't taser him.

Yes, police are taught to not let people touch them (due to safety issues), but they are also taught to use common sense when dealing with the public. Guess he missed that class...

Great post, S.T.! Thanks so much. Unfortunately, we live in a world where mistakes by police officers are held up for all to see as how we do business on a daily basis. Every profession has people who don't belong and police work is no different. It seems that when an officer dies, however, it's seen as "oh well, it's part of their job."

I had not read about that incident in Greensboro, but what a ridiculous incident! I realize that people of all ages can be dangerous, but it sounds like this officer lost his cool and overreacted.

Here's a great site that has all kinds of stories and statistics about all those who have died in the line of duty:

Officer Down Memorial Page

There's one story about an officer I worked with, in fact, she was one of my training officers back in 1992. Her name is Shelia Twyman and she was killed in a traffic accident. She loved EVERYONE! She was a strong woman of faith and she wasn't afraid to let it show. She was one of those officers that everybody knew and everybody liked. The world was truly a little less brighter after she left us.

Godspeed Shelia, and thank you.
