The only thing that saved them was our spineless Congressional leadership working in conjunction with a leftist media anxious to show off its influence.

......and don't think they don't have that page of failure memorized and emblazoned on their spineless hides, somewhere in the shallow end of the Darwin principality of unbounded stupiduty, as though it were some kind of an accomplishment of just means or ends!

I know three Vietnam Vets (one recently died) and none of them feel the way the Hagel, Kerry, etc feel about war or the Vietnam War for that matter.

Lee, that's true for most of us Vietnam vets. Hagel and Kerry speak for a very small minority of vets.

And Steve is exactly right. The war wasn't unwinnable. After Tet the Viet Cong was destroyed as an effective force, and the N. Vietnamese were ready to throw in the towel. The only thing that saved them was our spineless Congressional leadership working in conjunction with a leftist media anxious to show off its influence.

Great comment from Steve Skubinna there.

I know three Vietnam Vets (one recently died) and none of them feel the way the Hagel, Kerry, etc feel about war or the Vietnam War for that matter.

I have this theory I've been working out in my mind about the difference in how conservatives and liberals view war and patriotism--and it is very different--can't quite put it into words--the only thing that comes to mind at this moment is a line from the book The Four Feathers (A.E.W. Mason)--the narrator is talking about Ethne (the love interest)anyway the gist of what he is saying: She was a Celt and viewed death differently--I took it to mean that for Ethne death wasn't the end but another beginning--War for Liberals means death and nothing else and there is no honor in dying for your country or anything else except maybe the environment.

Senator Obama represents the State of Illinois, which borders on the the State of Kentucky. Senator Rodham-Clinton was born in Chicago, and grew up in nearby Park Ridge. She only moved to Arkansas after meeting Bill Clinton at Yale Law School. So is Barack saying he doesn't know his own state's borders, or where his opponent is from?

And don't forget, as Tom Harkin has so aptly reminded us, how "dangerous" military people are to a democracy.

Note the repeated use of the mantra "unwinnable" in describing Vietnam. The reason it was unwinnable was because Congress refused to meet our treaty obligations and to hold the North to theirs. It was unwinnable because Congress pulled the plug on Vietnam and sold them into slavery. It was unwinnable because of the same kinds of cowards today who consider a mass grave "peaceful" so long as they are not in it. It was unwinnable because these same cowards who solemnly chant that international agreements are sacrosanct and above even US law betrayed an ally and demonstrated to the rest of the world that having the US in your corner was about as dangerous as having them against you.

The always-classy Democrats...

John McCain had no problem in recognizing the enemy when he was in Vietnam, because they quite readily made themselves known to him, introduced themselves every stinking day with fists and rifle butts and a few other choice pieces of identification.
