The Washington Post is my go-to source for accurate, objective reporting.

Anyway:

The "insurgents" were, as I've always contended, children. Dangerous children, true. But their behavior was infantile. They had no plan, no goals, no strategy. All they had was tactics. They had their "fun," but now the sun is setting, and their parents are calling them home to dinner. Some have rebelled and are still out there; some have already been punished, when their parents came out and hauled them home. Still others have become bored and went home before being dragged home. They are the smart ones--now enjoying their dinners, unpunished (at least by their parents).

The ones we need to watch out for are the Ones Still Out There. As their numbers diminish, they will feel more pressure to do something to show they're still relevant, especially as the election approaches.

Therefore, incidents of random acts of senseless violence will occasionally occur--which will be trumpeted by the Usual Suspects as "the bloodiest day since . . . "

But more and more the situation appears to be coming under control, and it seems certain McCain will be reminding the voters that the strategy he advocated is the one that helped turn the corner.

But let's not kid ourselves: there's a long way to go.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

AND THE UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR GOES TO:

THERE'S BEEN a relative lull in news coverage and debate about Iraq in recent weeks
=)) Come on guys, relative lull?? That is just to funny. =)) The leftist MSM has been doing everything in it's power to ignore or lie about this subject.

and it ought to mandate an already-overdue rethinking by the "this-war-is-lost" caucus in Washington, including Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).
Amen!!! How stupid were these people telling all of us that the war was lost before the Surge had even begun.

I have said for sometime now, that there is an excellent possibility that the war in Iraq will be a non-issue due to all the good news. BO continues to blah blah blah about reconcillation, but it is going on, in the streets 1st. Like all things, the politicians are the last to actually know something. - Lorica

When Mr. Obama floated his strategy for Iraq last year, the United States appeared doomed to defeat. Now he needs a plan for success.

I don't suppose that it has occured to the editors of the Washington Post that the reason He Whose Middle Name Must Not Be Mentioned has not come up with a plan for success in Iraq is because He is heavily invested in defeat. To admit that we are winning would blow the entire infalibility gestalt the Left has invented for itself.

It is better to rule in Hell than to admit Bushitler was right.....
