Senior Clinton officials: Hillary to concede later this week

The NYT happily reports that the junior Senator from NY has finally decided to call it quits:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will endorse Senator Barack Obama on Saturday, bringing a close to her 17-month campaign for the White House, aides said. Her decision came after Democrats urged her on Wednesday to leave the race and allow the party to coalesce around Mr. Obama.

Howard Wolfson, one of Mrs. Clinton’s chief strategists, and other aides said she would express support for Mr. Obama and party unity at an event in Washington that day. One adviser said that Mrs. Clinton would concede defeat, congratulate Mr. Obama and proclaim him the party’s nominee, while pledging to do what was needed to assure his victory.

Her decision came after a day of conversations with supporters on Capitol Hill about her future now that Mr. Obama had clinched the nomination. Mrs. Clinton had, in a speech after Tuesday night’s primaries, suggested that she wanted to wait before deciding about her future, but in conversations throughout the day on Wednesday, her aides said, she was urged to step aside.

The article went to note that Barack Obama announced three-member VP selection committee which includes Caroline Kennedy. It also pointed out that the newly crowned Democrat nominee is already busy trying to rewrite his history on the Israeli/Palestinian/Iran conflict:

Mr. Obama appeared before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, where, tacking to the right, he described a far tougher series of sanctions that he would be willing to impose on Iran than he had outlined during the campaign.

Apparently his speech was potent enough that Hamas unendorsed him.

Mrs. Clinton, during an earlier appearance there, moved to reassure an audience clearly nervous about Mr. Obama’s views on Israeli security.

“I know that Senator Obama will be a good friend to Israel” she said.

Oh really? Seriously? Her claims should be met with a healthy dose of skepticism, especially considering that I don’t think a woman who hugged and kissed Yasser Arafat’s wife Suha in 1999 – after Mrs. Arafat had just gotten done accusing Israel of delberately using poison gas against Palestinian women and children – could really understand what it means to be a “good friend to Israel.” It looks like the Obama Reinvention Tour 2008 is in full swing, with a little help from his now-former opponent. He ran a far left campaign (where he is clearly most comfortable) during the primaries, and now he – aided by a willing MSM – will try to paint himself as a “centrist.” And the beat goes on.

Anyway, I’m getting off track here. Back to Mrs. C. conceding her campaign, I’d say a song dedication is in order:

;)
