A good speech, but as Obama himself noted, he was paraphrasing comedian Chris Rock, and he’s got unacknowledged debts to Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Larry Elder, and Herman Cain.

Sorry, I’m not buying it. This is the same Obama who wrote a book (“Dreams from my Father”) lionizing the father who deserted him and his mother. And I’d like someone to show me one piece of legislation he’s sponsored – hell, even voted for – that reinforce the values he’s now talking about.

This isn’t Bill Cosby, who’s spent years actively promoting parental responsibility, even when it wasn’t a chic to say so. Dr. Cosby deserves everyone’s respect. As for Obama – like so much else about him, this is “just words”.

Is single parenthood really the cause for all the problems? Obama was raised by a single parent and he himself is an absentee father. If this were the cause of the problems, why not mention also problems caused by white single parents? Does his children have problems? If there were some simple single cause for the problems, it would be the parent or parents, single or not. And, don’t give the kids excuses. If Obama can succeed, so can other kids in the same situation.

His heart is there, but not his logic.

I’m no Obama supporter, but I loved the speech. Lots of positive stuff on fatherhood, much to the disquiet of the left, who felt he disrespected “alternative families” by not mentioning them. Give me a break!

So many of his comments bring home the personal responsibility message that ALL races and ALL people should take to heart.

I want to know what policies Obama would advocate that wouldn’t subsidize or reward poor decisions by able bodied people.

THAT to conservatives is what matters also. Using the bully pulpit is good. But now what is the policies Obama would bring forward to further these words?

I didn’t watch his speech, in fact I actively avoided watching it because it was too obvious. When I heard Obama was going to make a Father’s Day address I thought “now it’s absentee dad’s turn under the bus.” I just had a hunch he was going to be channeling noted sellout and Uncle Tom Bill Cosby – except the same statements coming from Obama would cause widespread swooning.

The man is shameless. Sadly, that is probably the most important character trait needed to be an outstandingly successful politician.
