Well, maybe for some people it wasn’t a pair of earrings — though, in 29 years and two months of marriage, I’ve never bought Mrs Pico a pair of $600 earrings, and she still keeps me around — but perhaps a months worth of groceries, possibly a season’s worth of electricity, a couple of car payments, or $600 of necessities, rather than luxuries.

And if Mrs Obama gets her way and is elected First Lady — what an awful thought! — that measly $600 wouldn’t replace the increased taxes her dear husband would take away from us.

She’s right, though. $600 isn’t a lot of money. It covers my mortgage payment and a couple of utilities. But somehow the rest of her comments weren’t broadcast – you know, the part where she says “So Barack is going to lower everyone’s taxes so that you don’t have to pay in $1200.” Yeah, THAT’S change I wanna believe in!

I didn’t qualify for a stimulus check. That makes me the face of undiluted evil, according to the left.

Still, it takes a particularly rare form of tin ear to blurt out something that dumb. Hundreds of millions of Americans, when they’re not bitterly clinging to God and guns, are working hard to pay their bills, but all this elitist can think of is blowing extra money on expensive baubles.

Even Hillary, whose lack of political savvy is legendary, wouldn’t have said something that patronizing.

Now I feel stupid for not having bought earrings instead.

Barack Obama expressed recently in a puff piece interview in Glamour (!) magazine that he gets “infuriated” at attacks on his wife and would prefer that people debate him, and not her.

Well, Barry, that’s kind of difficult when you keep ducking all debates and calling everything you don’t want to talk about a “distraction” now isn’t it?

The stimulus tax rebate was not intended to pay off our bills, it was intended to get money out in the market.
