I'll begin with a full disclosure: I didn't think the surge would work.

But work it has, and of course I'm delighted that it did.

It seems, however, that many of those who claimed it would not are so "invested" in the failure that did not happen that they cannot bring themselves to say what I did above, and so instead insist upon moving the goalposts.

Look at the Pelosi quote ST has provided us with. She welcomes the reduction in violence but claims that:

<blockquote>
Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn't accomplish its goal.
</blockquote>

See, she can't admit that the surge did accomplish its goal, so she moves back the goalposts, claiming that all this happened because of the Democrats in Congress, and then she tips her hat to . . . "the good will of the Iranians.[!!!]

Now I admire Ms. Pelosi for her uncanny ability to function as a cat-herder; it's a task she performs far, far better than her Senate counterpart, His Ineptitude, Mr. Reid. But to try to claim partial credit for the surge is, to put it bluntly, beyond bizarre.
