Breaking: Alaska Senator Ted Stevens in big trouble with feds, indicted on 7 counts

Just read this little blurb on Fox:

WASHINGTON —  Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has been indicted on seven “charges related to (his) holding of public office,” two federal government sources told FOX News on Tuesday.

The Department of Justice has announced a 1:20 p.m. ET press conference that a release says is “regarding a criminal matter.”

Here’s background on the Justice Dept’s investigation of Stevens.   More here.

Good riddance, from what it sounds like.  Another one bites the dust.

Update: McQ reminds us of Stevens’ porky ways.

  1. Stevens is getting what he deserves. He was one of the poster-children for Republican spending excess and earmark corruption that cost us both houses of Congress in 2006. I hope he gets nailed. [-(

The only downside (and I do mean only) is that this should be a safe seat for Republicans in a year we can ill afford to lose any seats. As Power Line asks, who can we get to replace Stevens as a candidate? Could Governor Palin be persuaded to run?

  2. Great White Rat says:

If he’s guilty, throw the book at him and boot him firmly out of the Senate. We can’t lower ourselves to the left-wing standard of “Yes, he’s a criminal, but he’s our criminal”.

  3. NC Cop says:

    What an idiot.

Just like GWR said, I’ll wait until the verdict is in, but when it is and if he’s found guilty he should be punished BIG time. I’m sick of all this crap from our elected officials.

If he’s guilty, make an example of him.
