Two reasons:

1. A pro-choice V.P. sends a strong signal to the party faithful that one of their core issues isn’t as much of a core issue for their presidential candidate.

2. Being the person in the V.P. seat frequently sets him (or her) up to be the presidential candidate in four to eight years.

I’m not really sure why you’re attaching so much importance to this. I mean, assuming that McCain doesn’t kick the bucket, what real difference would it make on this issue?

The more McCain can distance himself from the pro-early death crowd, the better off he is.

Amen Tom!! For all the noise the MSM makes about the control Evangelicals have on the Rep party, it seems to me that this voting block is one of the most ignored. If McCain does do this, I will write in someone, Fred Thompson sounds like a good one, or perhaps J.C. Watts. – Lorica

I agree, ST, Obama is the most extreme abortion advocate you could find. He said on 3/29/08 about his daughters, “But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them PUNISHED with a baby”. The more McCain can distance himself from the pro-early death crowd, the better off he is.
