Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled “hockey mom” who has only been governor for a little over a year, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain’s choice for Vice President, CNBC has learned.

Sounds like a good pick to me. I just read what Wiki has about here, I know I know it is Wiki, but She sounds like the perfect person for the job. Good call Benning. I hope she is the choice. – Lorica

One suspects either he’s going to wonderfully surprise the heck out of us all, or we are all going to nod knowingly at the choice and mutter, “Of course. Should’ve known he’d have picked him (or her).” Or some combination.

Regardless, we definitely hope not to find ourselves having to do a “Three cheers for ______!” when we’d rather groan, because we sense the choice indicates looming November disaster.

Anthony, it might be that no one casts a vote due to the Veep, but with McCain already to willing to reach across the aisle, his Veep pick better be a solid conservative, or you are going to have people not casting votes because of his Veep choice.

And if you were the Veep choice, I would be more than happy to pull that lever for the John and Tony ticket. – Lorica

Bear in mind the old saying that no one casts their vote based on the Veep choice; I think that’s true even in this unusual year. It’s the person at the top of the ticket who makes the difference.

That said, I’d be happy with Palin, though I’d prefer Romney. If it’s Lieberman, I’ll still vote for McCain, but I’ll forever be scratching my head that Maverick should take such an unnecessary risk.

I’ve been touting Palin since February. I re-touted her in July. I’m touting her now. But John McCain has yet to ask my opinion.

Why is that?
