Paul, your query sort of reminds me of this old flick. Though I may not agree with the entire premise culminated at the end........new approach to big problems, with the American men and womem's concern in the forefront.

I have never understood why the states let the Federal government walk all over their state rights. The states need to get together tell the Federal government to stay out of state business and keep their bribery money and to shove their unreasonable regulations, they have the power to do so, but evidently not the will.
The no-energy bill clearly a joke, and is not in the best interest of the states or the country as a whole, and as I see it oversteps the federal governments power and responsibilities.

Well there you go GWR!!! If this constant Democrat obstruction continues, the American People are going to remember it and hopefully replace all sorts of obstructionist Dems with conservatives. How long have we heard these lowlifes in office blah blah blah about “breaking off our addiction to foreign oil”, yet at the same time do nothing to help us?? I remember this garbage being spewed 20 years ago. There is some big money to be made in this market, why isn’t this Government allowing the independent oil producers the right to make that money?? No more capped wells, no more volume restrictions. – Lorica

Here's another angle, from this morning's WSJ. The environmental Luddites have been working with the House leadership to make sure that even if the bill passes, they can delay drilling indefinitely with frivolous lawsuits. ST says the point of this bill is to

provide them with political cover in time for the elections.

Now the Democrats and their anti-energy allies have admiited as much:

The Sierra Club has told its members that it is "working to ensure that the final bill's focus is on real clean energy solutions rather than expanded offshore drilling." Democratic Rep. John Murtha, a Pelosi confidante, went further last week in noting that his party's not above cynical politics: "This is a political month. There's all kinds of things we try to do that will just go away after we leave." And Legislative Director for the Natural Resources Defense Council Karen Wayland has said "This is about politics, not necessarily about policy."
