New York’s WNBC reports:

VERMONT — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow’s milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

“PETA’s request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow’s milk in the food he serves,” the statement says.

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

“The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn’t make sense,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Everyone knows that ‘the breast is best,’ so Ben & Jerry’s could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk.”

In a statement Ben and Jerry’s said, “We applaud PETA’s novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother’s milk is best used for her child.”

What’s this? Ben and Jerry’s making a sensible decision? Color me shocked.

I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised at PETA’s request, considering how most of the “grown-ups” who make up PETA obviously never were fully weaned off their mother’s milk in the first place, especially when you take into consideration their routine juvenile behavior

  1. Good God!!!

So a cows milk is meant for a calf, but a mothers milk is ok to mass produce, for every human, and not the infant it’s intended for?

Who the hell are these people? Geeze!

My father in law, and brother in law used to milk cows. Trust me, these cows line up for it, because they become engorged, and need to be milked. The calves after about 6 weeks, are fed mama’s milk via a bottle….to start the weaning process.

So you see….even animals are weaned eventually. Now let’s see if the PETA morons are up to the challenge.

    Just unbelievable.

  2. Maybe we could have whole farms of nursing Mothers grazing in the fields, heck this could be a generational thing. What complete stupidity. Replacing livestock with humans. If PETA wants to start saving the suffering cow, maybe they should start living with them. Whack jobs. - Lorica

Apparently the folks at PETA aren’t the only flakes in the bowl.

  5. PETA has obviously determined that most of us are incapable of distinguishing abject stupidity from reasonable thought. Unless they themselves are incapable of…

Nah. Nobody’s that stupid, right? Who came up with this line, Pamela Anderson? The PETARD who used to wear Ugg boots until she found out they weren’t really made from Uggs?

Next thing they’ll be protesting is the near extinction of the Nauga, hunted to sate a nation’s addiction to Barcaloungers.
