Am I the only one who found it interesting that not only was OJ convicted, but was convicted on ALL TWELVE counts? That sounds to me like the prosecution made its case decisively!

I am also not sanguine about Rose’s gambling, either. The Chicago Black Sox, Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker (two Hall of Famers), and Hal Chase were all caught dumping games, but all except the last claimed to have done it because of tight-fisted greedy owners (there was some merit to their complaints). Chase, on the other hand, made his primary living on gambling and even once got a manager fired who accused him of deliberately tanking plays. Whenever a Joe Jackson or Tris Speaker takes money for dumping a game here or there, or a Rose who gambles recreationally, the Hal Chases are sure to follow.

Baseball in the late 1800s and early 1900s was rife with fixed games because of gambling. It took a superhuman effort to chase the gamblers away after they nearly destroyed baseball. Nor has the situation changed – as George Will once said, baseball’s nightmare is a player or manager in hock to organized crime because of gambling debts. The rules of baseball are clear – no gambling period. Rose knew that, and decided the rules did not apply to him, regardless of what it did to baseball.

Here is hoping that Pete Rose, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa never get into the HOF. I am tired of cheaters both in politics and sports. The Bonds scandal pretty much ended my love affair with baseball.

Allow me to take exception to part of that: Pete Rose gambled, and apparently bet on his own team, even though he claims that he always bet on his own team to win. (Who would be dumb enough to take a bet from a man that his own team would lose?) But there are no allegations at all that he used steroids.

That isn’t cheating. Pete Rose got more hits than anyone in history, holds the National League record for consecutive games with a base hit (44) and was the walking symbol of my favorite team the Cincinnati Reds. The man deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Me? I don’t care about him one way or the other. It’s justice I worry about.

Of course they’ll appeal this and it will be interesting to see on what grounds they will base it upon.

We all know that if Nicole had killed OJ- LA would have burned to the ground . And Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would still be leading mobs chanting “no justice no peace” 13 years later. SO white women and jews value the lives of our people as much as black people value Sean Bell and Rodney King. Apparently that makes some black people really angry.

“Shoeless” Joe Jackson is still not in the baseball Hall of Fame even though he had one of the highest lifetime batting average when he was banned from baseball and was one of the most feared hitters of his day who terrorized AL pitchers.

(For non-baseball people: Jackson was one of the so-called Black Sox who were paid by gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series.)

Look, O J Simpson won the Heismann Trophy and rushed for 2,000 yards in a single season; a man like that deserves a break or two!

If he is a registered Democrat we are talking Nobel Peace Prize material here. No doubt the Bush administration targeted him because he is a successful black man with a funny-sounding name.

In fact – I demand a Congressional investigation led by Rep. Kucinich (D-Borg)!

Hope he enjoys his new meaninful relationships, alone and forgotten for the next 60 plus years.

That would have him living until he’s 121 years old!
