What a surprise

Obama’s “tax cut” plan? Well, instead of actually cutting taxes, his plan [1] actually makes people more dependent on the government, not less.

Show of hands out there how many people this news surprises? I didn’t think so.

In semi-related news, further proving that the Nobel prize is completely worthless, the we learn [2] this morning (via Memeo [3]) that NYT columnist Paul Krugman has won the Nobel Prize for Economics. Krugman Truth Squad founder Donald Luskin quips [4]:

The Nobel Prize is never posthumous — it is only awarded to living persons. So some great minds such as John Maynard Keynes and Fischer Black never received the prize in Economics. All that has changed. With today’s award [5] to Paul Krugman, the Nobel as gone to an economist who died a decade ago. The person alive to receive the award is merely a public intellectual, a person operating in the same domain as Oprah Winfrey. And even as a public intellectual, the prize is inappropriate, because never before has a scientist operating in the capacity of a public intellectual so abused and debased the science he purports to represent. Krugman’s New York Times column drawing on economics is the equivalent of 2006’s Nobelists in Physics [6], astromers Mather and Smoot, doing a column on astrology — and then, in that column, telling lies about astronomy.

Kruggie is in good company, tho. Other distinguished Nobelists include Jimmy Carter [7], Al Gore [8], Yasser Arafat [9], and the phoney [10] Rigoberta Menchu [11]
