Palin specifically set it up so someone would be behind her putting a turkey into a grinder while she was involved in an interview about pardoning turkeys? And as Sev and GWR pointed out earlier, what’s with the liberal “outrage”? Why can’t you guys show outrage on issues that really matter, oh like PBA, for example?

Outstanding point GWR! The left gets the vapors and shrieks over a turkey getting “executed” (and turkeys are about the stupidest thing on two legs), yet think nothing of horrendous practices such as partial birth abortions and leaving surviving infants to die in the trash. After all, slitting a turkeys throat is much more horrible than sticking a tube into the head of a living infant and sucking its brains out.

But then, the leftist environmentalist wackos think more of things like a tiny fish or frog than they do about people, so it’s par for the course I guess.

Human life is only worthy of preservation if it’s a radical extremist who’s killed a cop or a noble “freedom fighter” Islamist goon who’s blown up an orphanage.

I suspect Palin knew what was going on around her. It was a turkey farm, after all. She likely didn’t think anything of it – it is, after all, a natural aspect of life. She gave it no more thought than if she’d been standing in front of a harvester gruesomely decapitating helpless corn stalks.

Life in Alaska – it’s so primitive there that they actually take live turkeys and make them all dead so they can get eaten. Not like in the comfortable coastal enclaves where they grow their turkeys already dead and plucked in shrinkwrap and styrofoam trays or in nice slices in a Swanson package. I am really beginning to sympathize with Heath Ledger’s Joker… the sooner civilization in the cities breaks down and they start eating each other, the sooner I can munch nachos and laugh.

Trish, I remember that McManus piece about the blood sausage. Like most of what he wrote, laugh out loud funny.

We have become such wusses. Back at the first Thanksgiving, people did their own meat “executions”–and cooked with things like blood and chicken feet all the time.

I had to laugh, now that I’ve seen the “execution”. I thought maybe someone used an axe or a strong grip to dispatch the turkey, like I’ve seen chickens killed.

The only ones who might (legitimately) be upset with such a post would be small children. Maybe someone should tell the hysterical adults, “It’s okay, honey. Ol’ Tom Turkey is just sick and the nice man is holding him while he pukes.”

The thing the guy is using is called a “kill cone” amongst other things. It works like this, you take the bird, and lower it head first into the cone, the weight of a bird as big as a turkey holds it in the cone, with it’s little gobbler head sticking out the bottom. You then take a knife and cut the turkeys throat, and the blood drains into the trough. After said turkey has fully expired and drained, you do what you see the guy in the video do, pull it out and move it away, and put the next bird in. Only used on smaller farms from what I understand, it’s much more mechanized and from what I hear gruesome at the big factory processing plants, where things behead the turkeys automatically en masse.

Still, where’s the drama in all this? It’s some guy putting a large, stupid stupid bird into a cone and quickly dispatching it, no muss no fuss.

I mean, c’mon, it’s not like they stacked the turkeys up with bags on their heads and took pictures of them! It’s no avian Abu Graib! No one waterboarded the poor bird!

The turkey is still alive, and it still has feathers on it. I’m sure the guy holding it upside down really wants the camera to stop running so he can do something the turkey does not want to happen, but do they really pluck a bird before killing it? If not how can you say we saw a bird’s “execution” or even “killing” since it went in the machine alive and was still kicking when the tape stopped. Also do they grind turkeys out doors, or don’t they do them in processing plants, not where they are raised.

The leftoids are such idiots. No matter what Palin does they will find something to complain about. It’s as bad or worse than they are with Bush.

I’ve heard some complain that she should have noticed, why didn’t she notice it, jeez, this is a woman who shoots, skins, and field dresses out moose and bear for cripe’s sake! She probably didn’t notice it at all, it’s like complaining that an ER Trauma Center doctor didn’t notice someone worrying over a hangnail in the background. Only effete, whiny urban liberals notice and are upset by such “real life” drama. Sheesh.
