Happy New Year :)

New Year's EveHard to believe it, but another year has come and gone, and it’s time to make some more new year’s resolutions that we know we’re all gonna break within a couple of weeks. Well, hopefully we won’t break all of them, anyway. If you’re like me, you’re gonna lay low and spend a quiet evening at home, maybe drinking a couple of glasses of champagne while watching ABC, waiting for the ball to drop in Times Square at midnight. I’ve been off work since last Thursday, and I’ve been on the go so much that it’s about time I took an evening off. So no night out for me.

It’s been a wild year this year, ya’ll, and 2009 promises to eclipse it. Let’s enjoy these last few hours of 2008, because next year’s going to be a hell of a bumpy ride and we’ll have to be on our game. We’ve got an economy in the tank, and a war on terror where victory depends on the next leader of the free world realizing that making a great speech alone essentially won’t change the dynamics of things, nor will implementing a solid liberal agenda that includes raising taxes and spending $$ like crazy, nor will sitting down and speaking unconditionally with a despot who wants to blow your strongest ally off the map.

Ok, enough of that. For now.

Jules Crittenden’s got a good mini-review of some of 2008’s biggest stories. MSNBC’s got photos of cities across the world that have already celebrated the birth of 2009.

And speaking of births, congrats to James Joyner and his wife, who just welcomed into the world today a beautiful baby girl by the name of Katharine Webb Joyner. God bless that little girl, and our country, too.
