Completely unconvincing, alchemist, on two points:

First, the article falls back on the old left-wing talking point that by killing terrorists, we create new terrorists – in this case AQ as a replacement for Hamas. Fact is, nothing sobers up the mind of the potential jihadi than becoming one more piece of cannon fodder. If the article’s asumption were true, right now we’d be hip-deep in Saddam Hussein followers right now, and Germany would have been overflowing with new Nazis right after the Nuremberg trials. Instead, the surge in Iraq produced – a pronounced movement toward democracy and a multisectarian government. Killing terrorists doesn’t spawn new ones; it removes the motivation for them.

Second, let’s assume you’re right and AQ moves to fill the vacuum left with Hamas gone. They’re then faced with looking across the street at the IDF, without the benefit of Waziristan caves as hideouts when the shooting starts. The Israelis live with the sharp end of a broken beer bottle at their throats every day, so they don’t have the luxury of worrying about things like the dining facilities at Gitmo. Instead, they’ve developed the IDF into a jihadist’s worst nightmare. If you think AQ wants to lock horns with the IDF, you’re as crazy as they are.

By a vote of 114-1, no less.
