The Zimbabwe-ization of America has begun.

But inviting comparisons between President Lincoln and himself is a rather dangerous game. He’s already got a group of worshipers who expect him to walk across the Reflecting Pool during the inauguration, and trying to compare himself to the man who most consider our greatest president just sets himself up for failure.

He’s starting out with a deficit for FY2009 that will be somewhere between $1.2 and 1.4 trillion, and that’s before his so-called stimulus plan is passed; if that passes, the FY2009 deficit will exceed $2 trillion. Following that, even Mr Obama has admitted that we’ll have deficits in excess of $1 trillion for every year of his first — and hopefully last — term.

Unless he can persuade South Carolina to fire on Fort Sumpter again, I don’t think he’ll be able to match President Lincoln.

In an interview with ESPN, Robinson described Obama’s floor game like this: Barack is a left-handed player who can only go to his left. He’s got a long frame. He’d rather drive than shoot. He isn’t much of a passer.

I’ll be at work, but don’t think my workplace is cruel for making me earn my money at this (all together now) historic moment. Nope, the University of California will give me up to two hours of release time to go watch PEBO’s Big Adventure.

Yep, in the middle of a state financial crisis and with the possibility of unpaid furloughs or being paid in IOUs, the university says we can take two hours to bask in the Glory of The One.

I have to say, I posted on my blog about the folly of all these shoutouts to Lincoln, and I got more negative email (not to mention, my first subliterate commenter,) on that one post than I have on anything else. Funnily enough, a lot of hits and at least one note came from federal employees logging on from their office computers. Your tax dollars at work!!

Also, I am sorry but these Lincoln comparisons are just getting down right creepy. I know that most people think that most publically educated people think that Lincoln was a Democrat, but he wasn’t. So Barack wanting to be compared to the 1st Republican President is bothersome. – Lorica
