Super Bowl Sunday Open Thread

Posted by: ST on February 1, 2009 at 11:02 am

Ok ya’ll – who is going to win this one? I’ve not read any of the sports talking head reports, but I suspect most bets are on the Steelers winning it all. Even if they do, you have to hand it to the Cards. Did anyone at all predict that the Cards would even come close to making it to the Super Bowl this year? What a dream come true for them.

Oh – and how many think that the halftime show will actually be worth watching this year (Bruce Springsteen will be the halftime entertainment)?

  1. I’m rooting for the Cards. Not because I’m a fan, but because their division rivals to my Niners and I want them to have the killer schedule next year. I’m such a stinker that way. >:)

All winning the Championship Game That Cannot Be Named™ will do for the Cards is drop them down from 31st in the draft to 32nd in the draft. They’ll still get the NFC South and East division winners (the Panthers in the desert, the Giants at the Meadowlands) because they won the NFC West. In fact, the opponents and the locations for next season were all locked in the moment the final gun went off on the final regular-season game.

By the way, Steelers by 10 in a low-scoring game.

    Oh, and comment editing works.

Republican or Democrat, Steeler or Cardinal fan,Vegan or carnivore, now is the time to give our new President the remote control.

I’d like to see the Cards win it, just because they never have. The Steelers have 5 already. Either way, I think its going to be a great game!

Come on; the Cards have an NFL championship. Yes, it was way back in 1947, but it counts.

As a Giants fan, I don’t really have a horse in this race, but being blessed with good weather, electric power and adult beverages and food, yes I’ll do my yearly duty and watch the game!

  8. Rooting for the Steelers (my Dad is a big fan, from Latrobe, Pa.), but, think it will be Cards by 10.

There’s a halftime show? I always thought they just went to dead air so everyone could make a potty run.

Question: what’s the over-under for when Madden tells us something we all know?

  9. NC Cop says:

Alright Tom!!! Go Giants!!!!! Well, uh, I mean, next year. :(

Yeah, but that was the CHICAGO Cardinals. I’d like to see the ARIZONA Cardinals win it.

Hey, they’re not the OldBrowns, so it counts. Besides, I’d like to see someone halve the Pack.

  12. Sal says:

I love Springsteen’s music, so I’m looking forward to it. I just hope that he doesn’t get political; he should just shut up and sing.

  13. Wow – finally a halftime show worth watching.

  14. Sal says:

Agreed — Springsteen rocked, and I’m glad he didn’t go into politics.

  15. Is is it just me, or are the Super Bowl commercials tonight mostly blah?

  16. I’ll check them out tomorrow online; I was in and out of the kitchen a lot tonight so missed a few. I did see a couple that made me laugh: the Bridgestone “Mr & Mrs. Potato Head” commercial and the investing baby punking his golfing buddy.
