I understand not wanted government to get involved, but what is the alternative? Deny 220,000 elderly Americans the care they need because Private Business refuses to do it because they will not make money on it? Where is their sense of civic responsibility? If Business acted with more Patriotism, Government would not have to step in. I don’t care how it happens, but Americans need to start sticking together because China is growing, Russia is growing, India is growing, South America is growing, and they all don’t seem to like us too much. Like I said, i don’t care how or who, but elderly Americans need our help and support to get the care they need and deserve. You can label it whatever you want, i see it as being a good citizen, a good neighbor, a good American, and a better Republican.

One should consider all of the information in Will’s article. The L.A. Times quote was particularly germane. Obviously, the govt. employees were fraudulently serving themselves while supposedly caring for the 220,000 elderly. The program was cut by !.4%, not a large decrease by any criteria, even those used by coercive utopians which populate the Democrat Party. Those elderly are still getting care under the program, and there are no reports that it has diminished.
By the way, how dare you question any person’s or group’s patriotism. I thought that was a no- no with Demos. But hypocrisy is the party’s strongest suit.
Good citizens/neighbors/Americans/Republicans/Democrats/independents take care of themselves and their families, and give generously to charity. But isn’t interesting that studies on the subject show that conservatives give much, much more to charity than Libs who claim to want to help everybody, Yeah, Libs want to do it by forcefully reaching into their fellow Americans’ pockets. .
For every dollar a business is taxed, a dollar cannot be used for employing your fellow Americans. And if you think “patriotic”, hardworking, small business people will continue to pay increasing taxes from their eroding profits, then you really out there in coercive utopian la-la land!
So – your solution is to deny elderly Americans the care they need because a government bureaucrat decides that it’s not cost-effective to treat them, so they should just go home and die. Yeah, that’s compassionate.
And that’s not an exaggeration. It’s exactly what has been happening in the UK, where the elderly can’t get help for very treatable problems.
If a government-run health care system is so superior, why don’t our liberals head to Canada or Britain when they need medical attention? When Ted Kennedy, who wants to have your medical decisions made by people like you see at the DMV, gets cancer, why doesn’t he arrange to check into a Cuban hospital? Why do thousands of Canadians flock to US hospitals every year? It’s because of the quality of our health care, and that’s precisely what you want to destroy with your socialist tripe.
And yet there’s nowhere else on the planet that those people would want to live. Go figure. If they don’t like us too much, it’s because of people like you who live to find fault with America and broadcast it continuously.
So let me ask you:
Why do you think that a health care system that makes a patient wait 6 months for an MRI is better than one that can give it to you within hours? Because that’s what you’re advocating.
Why do you think a system of rationing health care – with the rationing controlled by bureaucrats with no understanding of medical conditions or history – is superior to the current system? Again, that’s what you’re advocating.
Can’t wait to hear the answers to those….
