Profiles in liberal hypocrisy

Meet Scott Lehigh – liberal columnist for the Boston Globe. It seems he, like many other elite lefties, has taken offense over the thousands of citizens across the country who have made it known at town halls in their communities that they do not support ObamaCare. They need to learn how to be more “civil,” he claims … but he has an interesting way of demonstrating so-called “civility.” In a column titled “When the kooks take the stage,” Lehigh scribbles (via Don Surber):

IT’S HARD TO SAY what’s more amusing, the wild-eyed rants at town hall meetings or the conservative attempts to portray those snarling sentiments as genuine mainstream anger about the president’s health care plans.

Some Republicans are gleeful in the hope that the testy town hall encounters will derail Obama’s signature initiative.

Question: Do they really think the country is dopey enough to mistake microwave mobs staging Potemkin Village protests as an accurate expression of true American opinion?

If so, they’re delusional.

Most people have a basic sense of civility. When asking a question of an elected official at a public meeting, they try to do so in a way that is intelligent and reasonably respectful rather than belligerent and boorish.

Not these crowds. The other night, listening to talk radio, I heard a learned political philosopher explain why: You simply can’t be expected to be civil when everywhere around you, tyranny is supplanting liberty in the land.

But alas for the conservative fringers, as a mode of communication, the angry, ill-informed, accusatory questions stop a wee bit short of being truly persuasive. I don’t know many people who say: “See those agitated kooks making daffy charges? I want to be like them.’’

Well, sure, Glenn Beck. But not counting crazed right-wing media types, I mean.

[...]

All we’ve learned here is something we already knew: This nation never has to worry about suffering from a shortage of kooks, cranks, and ideologues.

Just don’t try to tell us they are level-headed, mainstream Americans.

Hmmm. When I looked up the word “civility” in the dictionary, here’s what I found:

1. courtesy; politeness.
2. a polite action or expression: an exchange of civilities.
3. Archaic. civilization; culture; good breeding.

Apparently, considering his use of the terms “kooks,” “cranks,” and “microwave mobs” (what the hell does that one mean, anyway?), Lehigh doesn’t know what the word “civility” means – wonder if he’s as clueless on the definition of the word “hypocrite,” which, frankly, suits him to a “t”?

As a side note, it’s hilarious how he went to great lengths to describe the alleged “Astroturfing” by conservatives, giving the issue a whole paragraph, while only giving a passing nod to liberal “Astroturfing“:

“Yes, I know that the White House has now ginned up its allies too, some of whom have been loud and aggressive.”

Gee – ya think?

Loser. (How’s that for “civility”?)

Better and better. Obama’s numbers with independents are tanking and its exactly because of morons like this that they are.

People are actually questioning the presidents plans(GASP!!) and the media thinks they are helping Obama out by portraying protesters as mindless, “wild eyed” extremists. However, there are a number of moderates and independents who are also questioning Obamas’ plans and instead of getting answers, they are being called names by our wonderful watchdog media.

Thanks guys, you couldn’t have helped us out anymore than if we were scripting it ourselves!!!!

  2. Carlos says:

“…some of whom have been loud and aggressive.”

They don’t get paid if they’re not “loud and aggressive”. The problem is, Duh-1 is getting the wrong people for his astroturf slamming. If he was thinking, semi-educated college idiots have been screaming their heads off and attacking physically in meetings for years, and they do it for free! Just tell them the citizens voted for Bush.

But then, I wouldn’t expect Duh-1 or his sycophants to be able to come up with that because, after all, they do know enough to run the entire universe…

  3. ClassicFilm says:

Shoot, I’ve been called worse than a kook or a crank… but to say I’m part of a “microwave mob” is highly offensive. And once I know WHAT it is, I’m sure to be even more offended.

Boston Globe, eh? Where they think civility and thoughtful, polite discussion is exemplified in… Rep. Barney “We don’t care that AIG families are getting death threats” Frank??? So rich… I remember how kindly, controlled, and positively avuncular Frank was when questioned a few months back by a Harvard student asking a question during an open Q&A – NOT.

But only conservatives are kooks and cranks and disrupters – I keep forgetting.

It’s liberals who have the damnest time as of late to not keep shooting themselves in the foot. And it’s with their own ammo. Conservatives don’t have to do a thing to watch this soap opera unfold… give Obama enough rope, and… you know the rest.

  4. Dave B says:

Do you see why the Boston Globe is going out of business? Every single day it’s the same thing. In all fairness my puppy especially likes the editorial section for some reason when he’s pushing out the same stuff that’s written on the pages.

  5. mike191 says:

If Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink are Mr. Lehighs’ models of decorum no wonder the”average citizen” is a “micro wave mob.”

Please keep writing these demonizing articles and the elections of 2010 will be the end of Democratic Party control in the House.

  6. Marcoin MI says:

Keep up the good work, shine the light of truth on liberal hypocrisy.

  7. Carlos says:

With any luck, all the dipwad leftist papers in the country will continue to “shine the light of Truth” as they have for so long so we, the great unwashed, can see our way.

And when the donks either lose their veto-proof majorities or their absolute majorities, the papers will be wondering what VRWC conspiracy was at work to defeat what everyone knew was a good and true and kinder and gentler country. They won’t be able to wrap their petty little minds around the fact that they just aren’t relevant any more.

  8. Kate says:

Tanking ratings on liberal shows and rags sort of prove the point…who is listening to you anyway Mr. Lehigh?

We are seeing the pot calling the kettle black syndrome…short term memory loss by the libs who somehow have no remembrance of their techniques in the past and now wish to impart the methods of proper civil discourse. NOT!

Maybe someone should apply for the $10/hour paid volunteer demonstrator and expose them for what they really are….make a little primer on how to truly run a demonstration. That may be an eyeopener.

  9. Steve Skubinna says:

You somehow missed the fourth definition of “civility:” Agreeing completely and totally with the leftist media/DNC/WH talking points of the day.

And the opposite of civility is fascism. Plus racism.

See, ST, it’s this deplorable lack of nuance of yours that keeps you off Olbermann’s and Matthews’ shows. Well, that plus the sad fact that you’re cuter than both of them put together.

  10. Lorica says:

It is this exact kind of hate speech out of these types of individuals that is only making things worse. It is this type of foolishness, blind devotion to the Barry, that is causing the frustration that we are seeing in these townhalls. It is utter lunacy that is to blame for these town hall meetings being a debacle. These people will never grown up, and they will always believe they are superior. – Lorica

  11. Ron Russell says:

I don’t know much about the microwave mob, I’m part of the “Big Mack Bunch”. Sounds like Scott has something against people who use microwaves—what a great way to piss off America’s housewifes and the common man.

  12. btenney says:

Scott Leigh is trying to organize a 40 car pileup into a parade.
    Obama is over. America moveson.

  13. btenney says:

Half White Fellow and former world leader Barack Obama is addressing the VFW tomorrow
No way he aint gonna screw that up.

  14. Carlos says:

In post #1, NC, you note that people are actually questioning the president’s plans. I must have missed something. He has given out plans? On anything?

He’s good at coloring concepts (but only with the help of TOTUS) that sheeple take to the bank but can’t cash, but concepts are not plans.

Oh, I forgot. He says they’re plans, so they must be plans.

  15. Jeanette says:

Actually, the videos show the questioners are civil when asking the questions but the crowd turns hostile when the lying democrats open their mouths and nothing but lies drop out.

Tell us the truth and we won’t talk back. Well, maybe not. :-?

  16. Brontefan says:

    If so, they’re delusional.

The only delusion here is that the Left keeps thinking that if they shout a lie long enough and loud enough–people will believe it! Town hall meetings are genuine grassroots Americans who do not want a Marxist president to take over their health care and their lives. However, the Left keeps yelling “foul” and “it’s just racism” instead of listening to people’s concerns. Even when you write the LEFTIES in Congress, they send you responses that imply you are supporting their grabs for POWER and pretend your voice is one of acceptance. The only people delusional here are those in the mainstream news media who are Obama supporters [Public relations for OB] instead of searching for the truth.
