Paterson: Attempted Times Square bomb attack was an “act of terrorism”

Posted by: ST on May 2, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Capital Tonight has Paterson’s statement in light of the attempted bomb attack late last night in NYC:

Tonight, we owe an incredible debt of gratitude to the heroic actions of the New York City Police Department and to a single vigilant New Yorker who identified a suspicious vehicle near Times Square in New York City.”

“Luckily, no one is hurt, and now the full attention of city, State and federal law enforcement will be turned to bringing the guilty party to justice in this act of terrorism.”

The Pakistani Taliban is claiming responsibility, but NYC Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says there’s no evidence yet to suggest such a link. As for possible suspects, the NYPD has video of a white male “shedding clothing in an alley and putting it in a bag and found a substance that resembled fertilizer in the parked SUV, Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Sunday.” There’s also speculation about a possible South Park/Mohammed connection:

Police in New York are investigating whether a car bomb in Times Square was targeted at the makers of South Park over a controversial depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

The device, which failed to detonate, was left near the offices of Viacom, which owns the irreverent cartoon series.

Last month postings on an Islamic website warned the creators of South Park – Matt Stone and Trey Parker – that they could face violent reprisals after an episode of the show featured Mohammed in a bear suit.

A posting on the website of a US-based group called Revolution Muslim warned Stone and Parker that they would “probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh”, the Dutch film-maker who was murdered in 2004 by a Muslim angered by his film about Muslim women.

Images of the Prophet are strictly forbidden in Islam, and Comedy Central, which broadcasts South Park, has banned Stone and Parker from depicting Mohammed in the past. In 2006 the network stopped them from featuring Mohammed in an episode which followed worldwide protests over a caricature of the Prophet by a Danish cartoonist.

The Jawa Report and Allahpundit both have lots of updates on this developing story. Just keep scrolling.

Yeah, the religion of peace strikes (or attempts to) again. If the failure rate of our military was that of the pig islamists, we would have been a third-rate, third world country centuries ago instead of being forced to that by our glorious leader now.

Of course it was a white guy, we are responsible for all the evil in the world. Just ask the liberals and their ilk…

  3. Jo says:

There is a theory now that the 40-ish white male video has emerged that the government planned this fake attack to blame the Tea Party movement (those ‘radical, violent’ opposers of their Socialist agenda) as part of a plan to eventually declare Martial Law. Now, I myself didn’t come up with this theory–but might it be plausible?

  4. Kate says:

Does anyone else find it a bit disturbing the Viacom has restricted the writers of South Park’s freedom of speech/expression? A very un-liberal act!!! In this “controversial” episode Muhammad wears a mascot costume and in the end I don’t even think they made such offensive statements about Islam as they do about every other form of organized religion, including Scientology! (Remember the rebuff of the Hollywood Scientology crowd about that?) So what are they so afraid of if Islam is so peaceful?

As for the “white male” business…yeah, I thought the same thing when I heard the report. Another strike at the tea party people…another conspiracy theory made up by the media.

  5. Carlos says:

And don’t forget, Richard Reid was a white guy, too, so you can blame the TEA partiers for that one, too.

Actually, the government conspiracy theory isn’t all that implausible, considering the perp didn’t know how to make a bomb and tried to use cow poop in place of ammonia nitrate. Only someone trying in the extreme to fail could be so incompetent.

In other words, this has Napolitano’s fingerprints all over it.

  6. Tex says:

Perhaps if Napolitano had put some DHS resources toward watching the real terrorists instead of wasting so much of them watching Tea Party members and military vets this attempted bombing might not have slipped under the radar. And how come when it’s a Moslem who gets caught committing a terrorist act the MSM refuses to say they are an “Islamic” terrorist but if the feds show a grainy video of someone who they think might be a suspect the MSM is quick to print “white” suspect? What’s up with that? I can’t tell what race he is other than he’s doesn’t look black. Could be white, could be hispanic, could be middle easterner … who knows.

  7. ZippyTheWerewolf says:

CBS news at around 5 pm tonight stated that the vehicle was sold via Craigslist and that the person selling it stated the purchaser was either hispanic or middle-eastern.

NYC Mayor Claims ObamaCare Opponents Set Bomb

    Key quote:

Law enforcement officials don’t know who left the Nissan Pathfinder behind, but at this point the Mayor believes the suspect acted alone.

“If I had to guess, twenty five cents, this would be exactly that,” Bloomberg said. “Homegrown maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.”

Unreal. And evil. What confidence can we have in any investigation now?

I’d move to Sweden if it weren’t for all the Muslims. Maybe Norway or Canada? Perhaps New Zealand. Idaho sounds better everyday. Though I am not racist, I am beginning to feel much more comfortable around fellow white folks.

The TEA parties have never mentioned race, but it’s the first card played by the MSM. And of course all of us are racists here in Arizona. Heaven forbid those who want to enforce the law.

I am beginning to accept the new narrative liberals are writing for me, the fact that I am superior and all. Perhaps Hitler was on to something, that great Aryan Nation. The blue/green eyed peeps.

But seriously, we all deserve a voice and an opportunity to be heard. Yes, I am white male, but please don’t make me continue to pay for a history I had no hand in. Pretend that I might have something of value to add to the conversation; I might.

I’m only as racist as you want me to be. Cooley’s “as if” principle. Keep playing the card and I will become the character in the story the MSM is writing.

  10. ZippyTheWerewolf says:

@ Toll: ditto @ “don’t make me pay for a history I had no hand in”

I’m finding it increasingly easier to state that I don’t have any white guilt. Sure, I went through that during my liberal youthful years, but got over it. I grew up where reverse discrimination was acceptable and white children had to bear the brunt of punishment because the educators never wanted to ’cause trouble’ by actually punishing someone who created the problem, so they made the victim, the persecutor.

  11. ZippyTheWerewolf says:

Reading my post makes me sound like a bigot, but I am not. My family is the ‘league of nations’ where everyone is loved and welcome. I’m just tired of the racism card being used as the handy default line.

  12. Toll For Thee says:

Zippy, I get it. Trust me. Weird, isn’t it, being the minority white guy and all…

  13. ZippyTheWerewolf says:

Yeah, I hear ya. It sounds like I’m defending myself. People who understand don’t question and people who want to look for hate filled intentions will challenge it..and find it no matter what.
