We live in a society where fidelity, trust, honor, and the pledge of true love is considered a quaint past, confining old standard. It’s all about me, my ‘needs’, my pleasure. And look where we are with divorce rates, kids in rehab, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Yep, promiscuity and infidelity is definitely the way to go. Thanks for liberating us, you screechy men-hating liberal hags.

I have to agree with you Jo….we have a very self centered society…so it stands to reason that the “experts” have begun to tilt in that direction and have forgotten the importance of trust and fidelity as a building block for any strong, healthy relationship.

So instead of telling the truth.. marriage is not easy, in fact it is hard, we get his drivel. But isn’t anything worthwhile a challenge? Commitment has a price, but the pay off is supremely more worthwhile than the consequences of cheating. How many people realize too late that they were operating out of a selfish standpoint and the damage done to their relationship is nearly impossible for their spouses to handle? It’s not fair to say, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander when everyone in the family suffers. How about a little support for marriage instead of a “Get out of Jail” Free card for cheaters?

I take all the so called experts with a grain of salt..they are usually hawking a book, column, you name it, and looking for noteriety.

Hi Sister,

I have changed my thoughts about generalization. Statistics are great, but often they reflect as much the assumption of the researchers, as they do “fact” or “truth.” Lately I have wanted more conversation than anything else, and often you can’t converse if people aren’t allowed to risk being wrong when they talk. This means you have to generalize sometimes and go by common sense instead of peer-reviewed research. For instance, this guy’s assertions got you blogging about it and now you have comments. If he’d said nothing at all, what would we have gotten from the exercise?

I learned my lesson about ‘experts’ after the O.J. trial. They would speculate about what they knew and sensationalize what they’ve perceived, which makes good copy, not necessarily truth.

The only experts I listen to are those whose ideas vibrate in the general direction of my belief system. That’s why I like it here..
