The Seattle Weekly reports [1] on how one of its cartoonists is having to “disappear from view” and essentially create a new life for herself from scratch thanks to intolerant Islamofascists who want her dead because she called for a “Draw Mohammed Day” earlier this year (via [2]):
You may have noticed that Molly Norris’ comic is not in the paper this week. That’s because there is no more Molly.
The gifted artist is alive and well, thankfully. But on the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI, she is, as they put it, “going ghost”: moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in our paper or in City Arts magazine, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection program—except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab. It’s all because of the appalling fatwa issued against her this summer, following her infamous “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day [3]” cartoon.
Norris views the situation with her customary sense of the world’s complexity, and absurdity. When FBI agents, on a recent visit, instructed her to always keep watch for anyone following her, she responded, “Well, at least it’ll keep me from being so self-involved!” It was, she says, the first time the agents managed a smile. She likens the situation to cancer—it might basically be nothing, it might be urgent and serious, it might go away and never return, or it might pop up again when she least expects it.
God bless this woman, and please keep her safe from the fascistic thugs who want to do her harm.
Now, I want you to imagine for five seconds the howls of outrage from the left had this been a career woman who basically had to go into hiding because of death threats from a radical fringe fruit loop “Christian” group. We’d never hear the end of it, top mainstream media news outlets would do documentaries about “extremist Christianity in America,” President Obama would be giving us a lecture on the dangers of “religious extremism” (which he, curiously enough, never does when it comes to Islam), etc. It would never stop, because the MSM and their cohorts on the left want you to believe that rare instances of Christian extremism are morally equivalent to the “tiny minority” (cough cough) of Islamists who have “hijacked an otherwise peaceful religion” (triple cough, double gag).
And speaking of Obama, AllahPundit has a wonderful question [4]:
Question for Obama: If Terry Jones was endangering the troops [5] by burning the Koran, then presumably Molly Norris is to blame for the threats against her, right?
And I have a question for other moral relativists on the left: Why are isolated nutcase Terry Jones’ deliberately provocative actions supposedly reflective of “all Christians” while routine worldwide fatwas, beatings, rapes, beheadings, murders, etc done by Islamofascists [6] only representative of a “tiny percentage” of all Islamists worldwide?
I won’t hold my breath waiting for an answer.
