Panthers at the Browns

Panthers logoThe Panthers are on the road today, taking on the Cleveland Browns in a game that probably only diehard fans of both teams will watch. The Panthers are 1-9 and are still struggling with unresolved quarterback issues. The Browns, at 3-7, are starting former longtime Panther QB Jake Delhomme – who hasn’t started for the Browns since week 1 due to a high ankle sprain injury. Charlotte Observer sports columnist Scott Fowler had a chance to interview Delhomme this week, and here’s what Delhomme had to say about facing his former team:

Watching Jake Delhomme start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns against the Carolina Panthers at 1 p.m. Sunday will inspire a lot of mixed feelings in the Carolinas – and on the Panthers’ sideline.

While Delhomme isn’t the best player in Panthers history, there’s no doubt he is the most well-liked among fans and former teammates. His enthusiasm for life and football translated to everyone. And of course, he won a ton of games as the Panthers’ starter, too (58 to be exact, including five playoff games).

“It was fun,” Delhomme said of the seven years he spent in Charlotte. “I’ll always consider myself a Panther.”

No doubt about that.

Game time today is 1 PM and it will be broadcast on Fox.
