Panthers at the Falcons (UPDATE: PANTHERS LOSE 31-10)

Panthers logoIt’s the last game of the season for the 2-13 Carolina Panthers, and they’ll play it in Atlanta, where the 12-3 Falcons will look to gain home field advantage in the playoffs with a win. It’ll probably be a fairly easy task for Atlanta, considering the Cats’ continued QB woes, and the fact that they’ll be without WR Steve Smith.

The two big football stories of the last couple of weeks here in Charlotte: The fact that the Panthers have locked up 1st pick in the NFL draft, and the ‘official’ announcement earlier this week that John Fox won’t be back as head coach. The announcement was a formality, as Panthers fans have known this for weeks.

In other coaching news, the NFL Network is reporting that Dallas interim head coach Jason Garrett will now be now be head coach of the Cowboys. The Cowboys will take on Philadelphia this afternoon at 4 Eastern time.

The Panthers game is at 1 pm ET and will be broadcast on Fox.

Phineas butts in: And my beloved 49ers end their miserable season in a meaningless battle at 1:15 PM PST against the equally pathetic Arizona Cardinals for the bottom of the laughable NFC West. This is a season I’m sure both teams will be happy to forget. The Niners are looking for a GM, and Trent Baalke appears to have the inside track. Once that’s settled, the team will likely go after Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh. Fingers crossed that next year is better.

Update – 6:23 PM: The Panthers were on TV, but they didn’t play – as has been the case most of the year. They lose their season finale 31-10. The Falcons secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs with today’s win. Looks like Anthony’s team is doing well right now – they lead Arizona 24-7 midway through the 3rd quarter.
