Robert Fibbs to step down as Press. Sec. – but he’s really not going anywhere

The NY Times Caucus blog reports that President Obama’s chief Minister of Disinformation is stepping down from his post as WH Press Secretary, but in reality, Gibbs will still play a prominent role in the agenda of the Obama administration as the President ‘officially’ transitions into re-election phase (via Memeorandum):

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary and close confidante to President Obama, said Wednesday that he will step down and become an outside political adviser to the president and his re-election campaign.

Mr. Gibbs said that he intends to leave in early February. His successor has not yet been decided, he said, but will likely be announced within the next two weeks.

President Obama, who is in the middle of making final decisions on the first major reorganization of his administration, said in a brief telephone interview on Wednesday that Mr. Gibbs would remain a close adviser and “will continue to shape the dialogue politically for many years to come.”

It’s always amusing to watch how the mainstream media breathlessly reports on the resignations of political aides/officials/advisors linked to a President, considering the fact that many of them – chiefly those serving in a “senior” capacity – really don’t ever fully exit the picture in terms helping shape the political agenda of whoever happens to be occupying the WH at any given moment in time.  That’s especially true in this case, when you consider the wave of departures getting ready to hit the WH like Gibbs and Axelrod , and some of those that have already happened, like Rahmbo’s.

These guys never really leave the Beltway.  Oh, they may leave the Beltway in the literal sense, but their hearts and minds and egos stay there, and their advice and opinions are always, always a text/email/phone call away.

So the infamous Axelturf/Rahmbo/Fibbs axis will soon officially be history.  Will be mildly interesting to see who ends up taking their respective places as Misleaders of the American Public – I say only mildly interesting because even though the faces will change, the agenda will, of course, remain the same, and that is to dupe as many people as possible in an “official” administration capacity.  The only thing that will change for Axelrod, Rahm, and Gibbs will be that they will work to try and dupe voters in an “official” capacity as “outside” advisors to our Chicago Way celebrity President.

Same crap, different day, move along – nothing here to see. Etc.

Robert Fibbs
Not going anywhere.
