Discuss. :D

Oh, by the way: Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning. Bring on an early spring!

Phil

Anyone ever done a statistical analysis to check Phil’s track record?

Nah. Never mind. Even he scored no better than chance, he’d have a better record than The Goracle. ;)

  2. Tango says:

….works for me! Vega$ is clear, brilliantly sunny, and a miserly 25F. this morning (aaaargh!).

  3. GringoBob says:

I gotta go with Phil on this one :-?

  4. Lorica says:

I wouldn’t believe the rodent in anyway, but Phil I am thinking he is spot on!! Come on March in like a lamb!! – Lorica

  5. Carlos says:

Heck, I got a stump in my back yard that knows more about weather than the Goracle will ever know, and the stump don’t lie ’bout it!

BTW, there really is a scientific basis for the groundhog prediction, having to do with the movement of the jet stream and whether it’s moving north this early. If it is, spring’s on its way and it’s cloudy. If it’s still laboring in its winter climes, the sun will be out in PA and there’s more winter to come.

Not 100% accurate by any means, but a whole bunch closer to the truth than Gore ever thought of being.

By Algore’s own words, we should be five years into massive polar icecap melting, and the tidal cove (mud flat) I live on should have water in it at low tide. No groundhog I ever met ever tried to trick me into building a marina, or called our exhalations dangerous “greenhouse gasses”!!!

  7. Dana says:

Now, don’t knock our former Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. If it gets warmer, it’s global warming, and if it gets colder, it’s global warming, and if everything stays the same, it’s still global warming. How neat is a theory where, regardless of what the evidence is, the evidence proves the theory? :d

  8. MissJean says:

However, Michigan’s Woody the Woodchuck predicts 6 more weeks of winter. And since she’s been right 9 of the 12 past winters, her accuracy is better than Phil’s. (And she would have been better VP material than Gore, but that’s another issue…)

  9. mike in Baltimoe says:

I’m going with Phil on this one. I’ve asked big Al to come to my house to help shovel snow, and he still hasn’t shown up. I’ll just send him the bill.

  10. Steve Skubinna says:

Oh, Gore, definitely. I mean, he used to be a divinity student.

  11. Zippy says:

Essex Ed (Turtle Back Zoo, NJ) predicts 6 more weeks of winter. My sinuses concur.
