Audacity of a dope: Obama says businesses have “obligation” to help the US grow
President Obama called on U.S. businesses to do more to help grow the economy, saying that while the unemployment rate is getting better and jobs are being added, the U.S. needs βto get there faster.β
βBusinesses have a responsibility, too,β said Obama in his weekly address on Saturday. βIf we make America the best place to do business, businesses should make their mark in America. They should set up shop here, and hire our workers, and pay decent wages, and invest in the future of this nation. Thatβs their obligation.β
Obama said he planned to deliver that message to the Chamber of Commerce on Monday, along with his administrationβs commitment to work with the powerful business lobby. The White House has negotiated for more than two months about when to hold the meeting with the Chamber, which has come out in opposition to several of Obamaβs major policies, such as the healthcare measure and Wall Street reform.
The message is that βgovernment and businesses have mutual responsibilities; and that if we fulfill these obligations together, it benefits us all,β said Obama. βOur workers will succeed. Our nation will prosper. And America will win the future in this century just like we did in the last.β
I’m sure I’m not the only one rolling their eyes at the irony of one of the most anti-business Presidents in modern history demanding that private sector businesses help him grow the economy.
Doug Powers breaks it down:
The translation to Obamaβs rallying cry to business is this: βYou idiots better figure out a way to pay for all this irresponsible BS Iβm shoving down your throats without laying people off and running up the unemployment rate or youβre in trouble!β

To the public-trough lifer, thereβs no understanding the problems and challenges of private sector business. In government, if you want to hire, you just do it and go take the money to do so from somebody else. Whatβs the problem? Bill Clinton once best demonstrated this lack of ability to understand private-sector economics when he told Herman Cain, then CEO of Godfatherβs Pizza, to βjust raise your priceβ to cover additional taxes and regulations. Yes, economic brilliance at its finest.
Obamaβs blaming private sector business for the sluggish economy when, if he wants to find somebody to fault, he could start by looking in a mirror β and we know he doesnβt mind doing that.
Not only that, but it’s telling that President Obama actually believes that it’s the”obligation” of the business community to help America grow. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the “obligation” of business to try and make money for themselves and their stockholders via the sale of a quality product or service?
Would someone buy this President a clue? Please?
