NOW begrudgingly defends Palin, then demands critics back off

Via Fox News:

Bill Maher uttered a female vulgarism when referring to former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin on his HBO show Friday night.

“Did you hear this – Sarah Palin finally heard what happened in Japan and she’s demanding that we invade ‘Tsunami,’” Maher said. “I mean she said, ‘These ‘Tsunamians’ will not get away with this.’ Oh speaking of dumb tw**s, did you…”

Maher was offering an imagined Palin response in an apparent attempt at humor, as Palin had made no such statement.

The National Organization for Women (NOW) refused to comment on Maher’s use of the derogatory term. A rep told FOXNews.com it is a “known fact” that NOW does not correspond with FOX News.

But later – via Daily Caller:

In the wake of Bill Maher’s tasteless slur against Sarah Palin Friday night, in which he called the former Alaska governor a “twat,” the National Organization for Woman (NOW) has not only denounced the use of such sexist words, but also issued a warning to conservatives who they believe are attempting to use the issue to discredit their organization: “We are on to you, right-wingers.”

“Listen, supposedly progressive men (ok, and women, too): Cut the crap! Stop degrading women with whom you disagree and/or don’t like by using female body terms or other gender-associated slurs,” Lisa Bennett, NOW communications director wrote in a statement.

In addition to chastising men (and women) like Maher who use their position as progressives as a shield against charges of sexism, NOW made it clear that their denouncement Maher’s sexist remark toward Palin is in no way an endorsement of her or conservative policies.

“You’re trying to take up our time getting us to defend your friend Sarah Palin. If you keep us busy defending her, we have less time to defend women’s bodies from the onslaught of reproductive rights attacks and other threats to our freedom, safety, livelihood, etc,” wrote Bennett. “Sorry, but we can’t defend Palin or even Hillary Clinton from every sexist insult hurled at them in the media. That task would be impossible, and it would consume us. You know this would not be a productive way to fight for women’s equal rights, which is why you want us stuck in this morass.”

The organization contends that the calls for NOW to speak out against every sexist comment leveled against conservative women is an attempt by conservatives to make the organization appear hypocritical. NOW insists, however, that they have come to the defense of Palin and that their work benefits all women, liberal and conservative.

Yeah, like issuing a statement is forcing NOW to be “stuck” in a “morass.” LOL.

But seriously, NOW’s just peeved because they were once again called out on their glaring hypocrisy when it comes to sexist comments made about prominent female leaders, commentators, etc. Liberal women, on one hand, are deserving of 24-7 campaigns to demand apologies, suspensions, firings, etc. But because conservative women, on the other hand, don’t support a woman’s “right to choose” and are in fact staunchly pro-life life, they aren’t “real women” to hardcore feminist types and as a result don’t deserve the same type of militant anti-sexism support from the likes of the “enlightened” NOW gang.

Personally, I couldn’t care less about any statement – or lack thereof – coming from so-called “women’s groups” denouncing the sexist treatment of female public figures, no matter their respective party affiliations. In fact, conservative women don’t need any defending by any duplicitous “progressive feminist groups.” But all the same it’s worth pointing out when they don’t. More importantly, it’s imperative to know why they don’t, which I explained above. Simply put: You’re not 100% woman unless you buy 100% into the radical liberal feminist dogma about “reproductive rights.”

BTW, when you read antagonistic statements made by NOW “leaders”, is it like you can almost hear them screeching out their little scoldings while wagging their fingers a la the Wicked Witch of the West? Personally, after reading their dribblings, I can’t get that image outta my head …
