The LameStreamMedia will harp on the torture issue as long as there are naive folks who will listen. Intelligence ops are not supposed to be pure as the driven snow. They have to work with people who basically are unreliabe and capable of killing our agents. This was especially difficult when you match up the "true believer" profiles that they were dealing with...those who would die for their cause are the most difficult to break down and make vunerable enough to cooperate. If anything, the patience and persistence to maintain a high level of interrogation over many years is quite a feat. The CIA should be congratulated for their determination to get the facts and to act on them with such accuracy.

The facts and truth must be constantly reinforced. Reportedly the intel came directly from policies that Bush and Cheney were mercilessly and endlessly derided for to this day. It all contributed to this successful operation. It is so wrong to cheer the taking out of OBL while condemning the techniques that accomplished it. No slipping down the memory hole this time. Go back and revisit the incredible amount of vitriol Bush and Cheney took so we could celebrate now.

Just think: If there hadn't been decades of innocuous infiltration of our intelligence community by leftists who were more concerned that everything done politically correct, maybe they could have found this "hidden" compound less than 6 years after it was built. You know the type of people I'm talking about, the Joe Wilsons and Valerie Plames of our "intelligence" communities.

And maybe they could have found the information and put it together just a little faster, too. But with those determined to destroy our country heading up "intelligence" in this administration, I can see why it took a decade.

Thank you. Thank you, ST for the continuing sober commentary on this and other events.

The MSM is currently in full slobbering mode. And who wants to bet me that THIS:
will receive no attention. (Courtesy POWER LINE)

Nancy Pelosi, press conference, September 7, 2006:

[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done ... is done. And even to capture him now I don't think makes us any safer.

Nancy Pelosi, earlier today:

The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. ... I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. ... [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic....

Playing politics with national security. Our current environment is, uh, "distressing."

I am reading a book by Jeffery Deaver called "Edge".

In this book is a character that gets information through torture, and is highly successful. Yet in the book there is a segment where the protagonist thinks about use of torture as being proven unreliable and it is far better to use "soft" techniques to get information from subjects.

Tell me, how does someone who is a brilliant an author as Deaver is, not see the diametrically opposed views being presented?

I understand the repugnance of using torture. It is not pretty or something to boast of doing. The thing is that it does work. I think there are exceptions to the extent of this type of interrogation, I don't think that the same techniques work with all subjects, but there are some very hardened people out there that only understand overwhelming force.

I'm glad Osama bin Laden is gone. The world is a better place without him in it. I believe that this was a long time effort, in part because Pakistan helped shelter and protect ObL. I give some credit to Obama for giving the go ahead to get him, but I don't buy it for a minute that he was as involved with all that went on as he purported to be.

It will be interesting to see what we learn as more information comes out about this, and I can guarantee you that more will come out over the months to come.
