Rep. Giffords returns to the US House - 8/1/11

Here’s video of Giffords as Congressional colleagues greet her on the House floor (starts about 2 minutes in):

She was there to vote on the “bipartisan” House measure that would raise the debt ceiling, assuming the Senate concurs. Fox News reports:

The House passed a bipartisan deal to raise the debt ceiling in an 11th-hour vote Monday despite grumbling from liberals and conservatives, who stretched the bounds of rhetoric to express their distaste for it.

The 269-161, was also notable for marking Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ return to the House for the first time since she was critically injured in a shooting in Tucson, Ariz. Giffords voted yes.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, emerging briefly Monday afternoon to speak with reporters, said he was not ready “declare victory yet.” But he and his GOP counterpart, Sen. Mitch McConnell, expressed confidence they could push the bill through “quickly.”

Got mixed emotions on the bill, but nothing but good feelings about Giffords returning. Haven’t read any reports yet as to whether or not this is a permanent return or symbolic, but either way, it’s good to see her on the floor of the US House.
