Racist Philly mayor goes off on black flash mobsters

Preach it!

PHILADELPHIA — Mayor Michael A. Nutter, telling marauding black youths “you have damaged your own race,” imposed a tougher curfew Monday in response to the latest “flash mob” — spontaneous groups of teens who attack people at random on the streets of the city’s tourist and fashionable shopping districts.

“Take those God-darn hoodies down, especially in the summer,” Mr. Nutter, the city’s third black mayor, said in an angry lecture aimed at black teens. “Pull your pants up and buy a belt ‘cause no one wants to see your underwear or the crack of your butt.”

“If you walk into somebody’s office with your hair uncombed and a pick in the back, and your shoes untied, and your pants half down, tattoos up and down your arms and on your neck, and you wonder why somebody won’t hire you? They don’t hire you ‘cause you look like you’re crazy,” the mayor said. “You have damaged your own race.”

Mr. Nutter announced that he was beefing up police patrols in certain neighborhoods, enlisting volunteers to monitor the streets and moving up the weekend curfew for minors to 9 p.m.

Parents will face increased fines for each time their child is caught violating the curfew.

The head of Philadelphia’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, J. Whyatt Mondesire, said it “took courage” for Mr. Nutter to deliver the message.

“These are majority African-American youths and they need to be called on it,” Mr. Mondesire said.

But, as per the norm, the only time its acceptable to call out such behavior is only when other black liberals are doing it. White conservatives, OTOH – well, “RAAAAAAAAACIST” would be the operative word of the day, er, decade. And for black conservatives – “UNCLE TOM!!” would be the go-to word. Perhaps not for Mr. Mondesire, but that is indeed the standard operating procedure for many prominent black liberal “leaders” like the Rev. Sharpton and the Rev. Jackson, which contributes to the high crime rate in the black community by trying to keep the criticism “in the family” so to speak, in spite of the fact that the disproportionately high crime rate in the black community is NOT just a “family” problem; it’s a national problem.

But, wait – I’m just a white gal who has no clue what black culture is really all about. How do I know this? Many a black liberal has said so. Case in point: Just ask black liberal columunist Eugene Kane, who writes for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (bolded emphasis added by me):

In the aftermath of the troubling State Fair Park incident that involved marauding black teenagers, it seems lots of people have become experts on African-American culture.

Many readers are always eager to read what I have to say about such incidents because they realize I have strong opinions on these matters.

But some of these same readers have some pretty strong opinions themselves about the state of black Milwaukee.

In fact, they shared them with me, whether I asked or not.

Many readers – mostly white – have mentioned the need for more “personal responsibility” in the black community as a solution.

They insisted the root of the problem with black youth wasn’t poverty, segregation, lack of jobs or institutional racism but instead social programs such as welfare and food stamps.

They also spent lots of times criticizing “black leaders” they accused of ignoring the problems within the African-American community by not speaking out against them.

(Of course, they didn’t seem to realize that’s exactly what happens most Sundays in every black church in the nation.)

Added to this were the opinions of noted local anthropologists Robert Donovan and Joe Dudzik, two Milwaukee aldermen who released a joint statement last week that was stunning in its clueless assumptions about most black people.

Donovan and Dudzik blamed the State Fair Park mob on “a deteriorating African-American culture in our city.”

I respectfully suggest neither of these guys could explain what “culture” means in a definitive way as it applies to African-Americans unless you gave them a dictionary. Here’s one Merriam-Webster-approved definition: ” culture: the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization.”

[…]

Clearly there’s a segment of mostly younger Milwaukee black residents in the community that needs immediate intervention. But calls for more personal responsibility are only appropriate if you truly believe the concept, which means you only hold the people who actually committed the crime personally responsible and no one else.

And you certainly can’t blame it on culture if you don’t have a clue what that really means.

Somebody better tell that to Mayor Nutter and Mr. Mondesire, who – as black liberals themselves – are apparently hopelessly clueless on the issue of “the deteriorating black culture.” I hope that same somebody (someone who is hopefully a black liberal, which will help greatly in the credibility dept, since we conservative white folk are so clueless and all about black issues) also helpfully demonstrates to Mr. Kane, who I should note in fairness has called for the “thug” element to be dealt with, the difference between someone believing that the black culture (which once thrived as a family unit in spite of Democrat policies meant to keep them down, and which stopped thriving as a family unit thanks in part to 60s era programs designed to “help”) is deteriorating – as indicated by direct quotes from his column – versus believing it’s the “accepted norm” in the black community.

Hopefully this same black liberal somebody will also inform Kane that his “you can ony hold those directly responsible responsible for the emerging black flash mob culture in Wisconsin” belief is in direct conflict with the (again the 60s!) 60s-era liberal belief system in which guilty defendants in the criminal justice system oftentimes get lighter sentences thanks to liberal defense attorneys who argue that “society” is more responsible for the crime(s) their respective clients committed than their clients themselves. You know, something that Kane himself did in the very piece in which he claims we should only hold the guilty responsible and no one else (bolded emphasis added by me):

[The “mostly white” readers who wrote in] insisted the root of the problem with black youth wasn’t poverty, segregation, lack of jobs or institutional racism but instead social programs such as welfare and food stamps.

Thank you, thank you all. No applause necessary. Just throw money. And flowers. ;)
