It’s s beautiful day here in Charlotte, perfect for rookie QB Cam Newton to lead a hungry Panthers team to their first win of the season, and they’re hoping to do it against the Jags, who lost big to the Jets last week and who are hoping to rebound.
The Panthers have been close in both games played this season but not close enough. Here’s hoping today will be the day! If for no other reason than for the fact that I picked ‘em in the football pool this week. ![]()
The game is in progress and is being broadcast on CBS.

Well, you’re leading 5-0, which means a safety was involved. I love safeties, they’re the ultimate humiliation for a team: the other guy scores in your endzone *and* you have to kick the ball to him. Should be worth more than a field goal.
Meanwhile, the Bengals are leading my beloved 49ers 3-0 in a battle of the feebs. Le sigh…
Panthers score just went final, and Newton found a way to win in the end. He just might turn into a good QB yet. Lord knows, after what he did to my beloved Ducks in the natty last year he’s got the raw tools.
