Homeless to #OccupySacto: Get out of our park!
CBS Sacramento files an interesting reportΒ in which the homeless at a local city park want “Occupiers” off their ‘turf’:
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) β As the Occupy Sacramento movement settles in for another night inside Cesar Chavez Park, another group sits, watches and wonders if theyβll ever get what they call βtheir parkβ back.
βThese homeless people have been out here alot longer than you have,β one homeless person tells CBS13.
For years this plaza in the heart of Sacramento has been a homeless hide-away. But some just want the Occupy group to go away:
βI just wish theyβd give us our park back,β one homeless woman says.
Sheβs one of dozens of homeless whoβve signed a petition:
Part of the problem, some homeless argue, they feel theyβve lost their freedom.
βThey got their own security, they act like the police,β one man tells Lopez. βAnytime you do anything they say you canβt do this and that β¦ and weβre saying βyouβre not the police.ββ
But the allegations of harassment go both ways.
βShe on numerous occasions came to me with violent threats like βIβm going to get you,β just terrible things,β one Occupy organizer says.
The Occupy leader felt so threatened by a homeless woman, she thought about getting a restraining order.
So, like – I’m confused. If the “Occupiers” are “the 99%” and the homeless don’t want them there, what does that make the homeless?
