Obama campaign wants Republican email addresses? Shades of the children’s choir…

And they want their supporters to submit them.

File this under “Huh?

The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website.

The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat.

This administration seems to have a special talent for launching projects designed to set off the alarm bells of conservative and libertarian-leaning folks. Remember when the White House asked supporters to report people for spreading misinformation? Or when his reelection campaign set up Attack Watch?

Now they want any Obamatons in our midst to turn over our names and email addresses for a “prank?”

To be honest, I don’t see this as some conspiracy to “round up” our names and addresses for some sinister purpose. No doubt some marketing flack said in a meeting, “Hey, I know what we can do to get our followers excited!” So, that part doesn’t really concern me.

What does bother me, though, is what I am sure will be the gleeful enthusiasm of a certain core of Obama voters who will be all too happy to report their neighbors and colleagues who stand in the way of “community” and Hope and Change… or whatever slogan they’re pushing this time. Those kind of people make me nervous.

You know, the kind of people who form a children’s choir to sing the praises of Dear Leader.

Those folks worry me.
