#WarOnWomen Tweet of the Day: Let’s get the FCC to investigate Rush!

Tweet Of The Day

Here’s the “petition” (anyone can post a petition on the WH site, BTW). It reads:

direct the FCC to investigate Rush Limbaugh for biased and distorted news and for making intimidating statements

On February 29 and March 1, 2010 [er, 2012, dope! – ST], Rush Limbaugh broadcast biased and distorted news commentary as well as intimidating statements about an individual, Sandra Fluke.

On the air, he called Fluke a “slut” and a prostitute in response to Congressional testimony regarding contraception. The next day he aired these intimidating remarks:

“If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.”

In addition, this language, directed at a specific individual, meets the Supreme Court test for obscenity: it appeals to prurient interest, it depicts offensive sexual conduct (peeping Toms) and it lacks serious literary, artistic or political value.

I’ve been saying for weeks now since the “war on women” rhetoric was escalated by Democrats for shameless political gain that their minions didn’t just want to see Rush “punished” with a loss of advertisers, they wanted to see him OFF THE AIR – period (a continuation of the decades-long effort by liberals in general). That’s played out in comment after comment I’ve seen posted on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Some variation of “Clear Channel – Take Rush off the Air Now or You Support Misogyny!!!” is usually about how it goes. Demanding the FCC to investigate just takes it to a whole new (and dangerous) level.

To top it all off, Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) has joined some left wing “feminist” veterans in a call to have Rush taken off of the Armed Forces Radio Network. He tried to cover the censorship angle by saying he didn’t think it was something that should be legislated – but that’s nothing more than a convenient, disingenuous excuse that lets him get by with goading the hysterical “feminist” herd into perhaps eventually ‘forcing Congress to take action.’

These people are so transparent – and not in a good way.

Why the MSM treats Sandra Fluke differently than they did Joe the Plumber

Jonah Goldberg pegs it:

You may recall that when Joe Wurzelbacher was approached by Barack Obama entirely accidentally, he became something of a political celebrity for having a philosophical disagreement with the president over spreading the wealth around and all that. Before long, the mainstream press went to battle stations to discredit the man.

[…]

Meanwhile, here’s Sandra Fluke a 30-year-old law student and committed political operative and activist. And yet the mainstream press can’t muster the slightest skepticism about her efforts.

[…]

Still, I think the comparison is interesting in numerous ways. When average citizens are thrust into the political debate, they are heroes — if they confirm prevailing liberal arguments. When they run against the grain of the preferred narrative, they are ground down, caricatured, and treated to corrosive media skepticism.

Obviously, there are differences between the two cases. Some are relevant, some aren’t. If you think Fluke is special because she’s a woman, that’s awfully chivalrous of you (and I might even agree!). But such old-fashioned deference to the delicate sensibilities of women is not exactly a pose we’re told feminists of Fluke’s stripe support. Moreover, as Kirsten Powers notes in an excellent column, such deference to the fairer sex is not a standard liberals support when the woman in question is a conservative.

Selective vetting, frankly, stinks — as we all were reminded during the 2008 presidential campaign season, and again now.

The blazing constitutional ignorance of Markos Moulitsas, aka “Kos”

**Posted by Phineas

Last night I was following the Super Tuesday election returns on Twitter, kind of bored, when something amazing happened: Markos Moulitsas, the “Kos” of the progressive Daily Kos web site, decided to lecture conservatives on the Constitution and the derivation of our rights.

As you can imagine, the results were hilarious in their historical illiteracy. The man truly has no concept of the origin of rights under Natural Law, or the differences and relation between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. In other words, he was the quintessential progressive.

Do yourself a favor and go read my friend Jimmie’s post deconstructing and lampooning Moulitsas in a way that should have Kos crawling under a rock in embarrassment… if he had any shame at all. He does it far better than I could and, rather than repeat what he wrote, I’ll just point you to it.

Enjoy.

PS: Oh, and Markos? If you want, I can recommend some basic US History and Government texts for you. You seem to be in a bit of need, pal…
