#FAIL: MSDNC equates support of family & friends to government “support”

Never let it be said that during an election year (more so than any other year) that the Obama administration’s self-proclaimed favorite network won’t try to rise to the occasion in order to try to negate legitimate criticisms of Dear Leader and attempt to deflect them onto his political opposition. In this case, however, their attempt at “rising” to the occasion, well, deflated pretty miserably. MSDNC First Read’s Domenico Montanaro “reports“:

Mitt RomneyΒ has criticizedΒ President ObamaΒ for his β€œyou didn’t build that line,” when it came to businesses. The president was making an β€œit takes a village” argument, which the Romney campaign and conservatives have roundly panned.

But in 2002, during his speech at the Opening Ceremonies at the Winter Olympics — the games in which Romney was lauded for turning around the management — Romney made a similar argument about Olympians.

“You Olympians, however, know you didn’t get here solely on your own power,” said Romney, who on Friday will attend the Opening Ceremonies of this year’s Summer Olympics. β€œFor most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”

Think Progress” picked this up as well. Β I’ll file this one under “You Have Got to Be Kidding Me.” Β Michelle Malkin is rightly incredulous:

MSNBC’sΒ Maddow BlogΒ piled on: β€œIn retrospect, this is probably a quote Mitt Romney wishes he could take back.”

Why? Romney was paying tribute to the voluntary community and family support system behind every Olympic athlete. Obama was assailing individual achievement to advance higher taxes on business owners.

Romney was showing appreciation to the network of individuals who help athlete achieve their dreams. Obama was showing contempt for private entrepreneurs who don’t believe they should be punished with even more confiscatory government policies that hinder their success.

Bingo. Β Of course, liberals tend to look at government as a substitute for the family unit in terms of “love” and “support” (of the financial variety –Β just ask Julia) anyway, so it shouldn’t exactly be surprising that MSNBC tried (and ultimately failed) to make the equation.

The RNC response to First Read was to assume – and understandably so – that this lame attack originated from Team Obama, and they sent this to First Read:

A Republican strategist sends over this response:Β β€œThe Obama Campaign is comparing the government to a loving parent? What happened to Julia?”

For the record, the post did not originate with the Obama campaign but an NBC archive search.

LOL. In other words, there are rare instances that MSNBC actually does their own digging independent of any prompting Β from their allies in the Obama administration — but in the end the result is the same: They end up looking like the mouthpiece for what could very well be the most incompetent administration in modern history. Β Keep it up, MSDNC. If this is the best you can do, your network will be the least of the right’s concern between now and November. Β ;))
