Obama hates missile defense, except when he’s trying to buy votes

Mitt Romney is on an overseas trip to Great Britain, Israel, and Poland. Worried about the Jewish vote at home because of his noted lack of support for Israel and wanting to steal a bit of the limelight from Romney, President Obama signed a bill giving Israel $70,000,000 for their (very promising) Iron Dome short-range missile defense system. What’s notable about that, you ask?
- First, he cut money for that same system just a few months ago. What changed his mind? The approach of November and his poll numbers. Bet on it.
- Second, he has cut our own missile defense program, keeping a campaign promise he’d rather you didn’t remember.
- Finally, and this gets back to Romney’s trip, he stabbed Poland and the Czech Republic in the back over missile defense, in order to appease the Russians. There are no blocs of rich Polish or Czech donors in the US.
It’s all about the pandering, baby.

My guess is the next block of voters is college kids, ie. some variation of student loan forgiveness.
How do you like that for “rocket science”? All it has to be able to do is fly through the electoral process.
