Mitt Romney is on an overseas trip to Great Britain, Israel, and Poland. Worried about the Jewish vote [1] at home because of his noted lack of support for Israel and wanting to steal a bit of the limelight from Romney, President Obama signed a bill giving Israel $70,000,000 [2] for their (very promising) Iron Dome short-range missile defense system. What’s notable about that, you ask?
- First, he cut money for that same system [3] just a few months ago. What changed his mind? The approach of November and his poll numbers [4]. Bet on it.
- Second, he has cut our own missile defense [5] program, keeping a campaign promise [6] he’d rather you didn’t remember.
- Finally, and this gets back to Romney’s trip, he stabbed Poland and the Czech Republic in the back over missile defense, in order to appease the Russians [7]. There are no blocs of rich Polish or Czech donors in the US.
It’s all about the pandering, baby.
