And, let us not forget to castigate the originators of the food stamp welfare program, the farmers who produce the food that is bought by the stamps. The program was originally set up not necessarily to aid those who needed food, but to buy the produce farmers raised that would go to waste because they couldn't sell it.

That's a good rule of thumb for qualifying for benefits, Drew. Another would be that if you're having to have the equivalent of Tupperware parties to get people to sign up, maybe the standards for qualifying are a tad out of kilter. The real problem is that the primary goal of both parties is getting or retaining power for its side regardless of what is best for the country. Another is that fewer and fewer people have any pride about being independent and self-sufficient. And fewer companies give a rat's behind how they make their money. The post referred to the money JP Morgan Chase is making off this program. They obviously have no sense of irony, considering the lengthy ad they are now showing extolling the virtues of the free enterprise system and hard work, etc. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it when at the end it turned out to be an ad for Obama's buddies at JP Morgan Chase. You can always depend on the Obama cronies to say one thing and do another.

The original purpose of the food stamp program was to offer temporary public assistance to needy households. It was never intended as a way of life. In many instances it was standard procedure to deny benefits to anyone driving to the welfare office in a better vehicle than that which the salaried staff members owned.
