I agree with every word you wrote save one. In place of the word failure I would substitute the word success. I believe that is part of the agenda and has been all along. Obungle is way smarter than he is given credit for. He is emboldened because he can say anything and do the exact opposite without ever being called on it. Very early on we could have coordinated with some of the very few allies we have left in the region to have engineered a better outcome. That we did not is despicable in the sense that we had an opportunity and the power to do something beneficial but sat idly by until events overtook us.
